Top-of-the-line VHF receiver opens up an ocean of information about other vessels

Operating in the VHF band, the AIS system enables the wireless exchange of navigation information between vessels and shoreside traffic monitoring centers. An AIS (Automatic identification System) receiver can help you improve collision avoidance and situational awareness by providing identification and position of vessels not always possible through voice radio communication or radar alone. Commercial ships, ocean-going vessels and other boats equipped with AIS transmitters broadcast AIS messages that include the vessel's name, course, speed, and current navigation status. The AIS250 Receiver module is a "listen only" AIS receiver that easily integrates with an existing VHF antenna using a built-in VHF splitter. The AIS250 then interfaces to Raymarine multifunction displays, allowing AIS targets to be graphically overlaid in both the chartplotter and radar modes. Includes a built-in VHF/FM splitter. No additional VHF antenna is required. Two NMEA 0183 input and two NMEA 0183 outputs with a built-in multiplexer for simple interfacing.
