More bearings and pawls combined with Italian styling—better form and function
Harken’s precision winches are extremely reliable and exceptionally efficient. They stand up to the rigors of ocean racing, but will serve you well wherever you sail. They feature more bearings than comparable winches and have wide diameter spindles to minimize friction, which makes sailing easier, safer and more fun. Built to very fine tolerances, these winches feature large roller bearings on most gears and drive shafts.
Use single-speed winches for sheets on small boats and for halyards on medium and large boats. They also perform a variety of control functions on many boats. Use small two-speed winches for sheets and halyards on boats of all sizes.
Materials and Construction High-load carrying gears and caged roller bearings are made of 17-4 PH stainless for maximum strength, durability and efficiency. Winches as small as the 48 have roller bearings in every gear. Larger winches use two gears to drive drums, which reduces the load on the drum gear and loads the drum symmetrically to improve efficiency. Pawls are held captive by the springs. They're easy to remove but won’t drop out accidentally. Drums can be removed for service by removing a single screw.
Self-Tailing Models Harken’s unique composite self-tailing mechanism of long-glass fiber is designed to grip securely, yet is easy on your sheets. The jaws of the self-tailing device automatically adjust under line pressure to fit lines of different diameters. The arm is adjustable to 22 positions after the winch is mounted, which assures correct line lead into your cockpit.
Styles Winch drums are offered in black Hardkote anodized aluminum (A) and chromed bronze (C). Bronze winches are available through Special Order.
Warranty Harken warrants its winches against defects in materials and workmanship for three years from date of purchase.
