Job Description

The Assortment Planning Manager provides direction and guidance during the development of inventories for new stores, remodels, and reassorts. As such the Assortment Planning Manager must have an intimate knowledge of West Marine’s customer base and product assortments. This position is ultimately responsible for the daily maintenance and accuracy of those assortments and for the relationships between the assortments and the stores via the VMS program. The Assortment Planning Manager must develop partnerships with other departments within the Watsonville Support Center as well as with District and Regional Managers. The manager must be confident working with MS Excel and Access and have the ability to learn SQL, IBM AS400 Query, Visual Basic, and IBM Websphere programs. They must have a strong sense of urgency and a desire to take charge of their responsibilities. The most important responsibility of the Assortment Planning Manger is to be a leader for their team and to provide the mentoring necessary to allow each member to grow to their full potential.

Qualifications

  • Excellent managerial skills, and experience working in and with both technical and non-technical communities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent ability to gather and interpret information, develop, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of personal computer and mainframe computing products including Excel, Access, and SQL Query/400.
  • BA in Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience in this type of role
  • 2 years of experience working in a retail store environment
