The Manager of Regulatory Compliance is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining processes and controls designed to ensure that West Marine is in compliance with all US and International laws and regulations related to the sourcing, labeling,, transportation, registration, handling, advertising, sale and disposition of regulated product including, without limitation, compliance hazardous materials, conflict minerals, product recalls, and other regulations promulgated by regulatory agencies including DOT, CA Proposition 656, Air Resource Board, CPSC, EPA, etc.. The Candidate will manage day-to-day activities related to regulated product and will be required to develop a cross-functional regulatory compliance program, developing Company policies, procedures and training programs, and proactively identifying issues and emerging trends. This position will provide direction and accountability for all corrective/preventative action plans that result from Audit Findings or issues identified by regulatory agencies or emerging trends. In addition, this position will serve as in-house expert to address West Marine’s regulatory compliance activities, will act as liaison with other functional areas and governmental agencies and will assist with audits, training and the design of remediation plans as required.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years relevant regulatory compliance experience. Is (or willing to become) well-rounded in a number of product-regulated areas and regulations including Federal, State, OSHA and/or DOT process and procedures. Experience with identification and classification of hazardous materials. Experienced in developing policies and procedures. Initiative and the ability to take independent and decisive action; and flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Demonstrate an understanding of Compliance fundamentals and possess the ability to train others and provide group presentations.
