The role of Sr. Systems Engineer, Linux is to maintain and support the stability, integrity, and consistency of the infrastructure specific to Linux. This includes a 24x7 HA production environment as well as multiple development environments, some of which are also HA. This person must have expert knowledge of business best practices for these systems. This person will also be responsible for assisting with creating SOP’s and company and system policies. This person will report to the Sr. Manager of IT Operations and works with 3rd party vendors from time to time.
This person must serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the following systems and concepts: all things Linux, Sendmail, FTP/SFTP/FTPS, Web Server Configuration, SSL Certificates and Key stores, Java/JBOSS, General system scripting and automation (ruby perl, bash, etc.), batch processing, application/JVM tuning, LDAP, multi-tiered architectures, networking, and firewalls.
This candidate will manage the day-to-day operations by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Ensures that service level reporting records are properly maintained. Ensures function, security, integrity, and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical Linux systems. Setup, configure, ensures HA, maintain and troubleshoot all Linux systems. Support team in duties and projects as assigned as well as the on-call rotation & occasionally be available on nights and weekends. Assist DBAs, Developers and QA users, with application operation, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. Respond to service outages. Assists with establishing guidelines, procedures, long term goals and capacity planning for the Linux environment.
