WATSONVILLE, CA (February 08, 2012)

West Marine, the country's largest retailer of boating supplies and accessories, will feature the first commercially available outboard engine fueled by propane at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show on February 16th. This marks the debut of LEHR, Inc.’s technology to be used on water. This technology is already being used successfully with vehicles, forklifts and larger equipment.

“The LEHR series of propane outboards eliminates many of the hassles of gas-powered engines. Fuel problems become a thing of the past, they produce far fewer pollutants for the air and water, and they allow cruisers to cast off without the need to carry gasoline onboard for dinghies,” said Chuck Hawley, V.P. of Product Information for West Marine.

Captain Bernardo Jorge Herzer, founder of LEHR, spent a series of long, cold nights aboard the research vessel Sea Surveyor at work in the North Sea.  During that time, he converted gasoline engines to run on propane.  “Propane is just safer, more efficient and more reliable,” said Captain Herzer.

Customers can visit West Marine’s booth at the Miami International Boat Show or online via westmarine.com to learn more about the LEHR Propane Powered Outboard Motor or any of West Marine’s 75,000 other product offerings.
