|WEST MARINE INTRODUCES METAL-FREE SAILING BLOCKS TO REDUCE WEIGHT AND ELIMINATE CORROSION|
WATSONVILLE, Calif. (February 15, 2011)
Now recreational sailors can enjoy the same lightweight, easy-to-use composite blocks that have been tested by world-class racing teams. With no metal shackles, fasteners or rivets to corrode, Harken’s T2 features fiber-reinforced, nylon-resin sideplates to reduce weight, noise and damage to your deck and gear, while creating a flexible attachment point.
“These new soft-attach blocks are so light, smooth-rolling and dependable, it’s just one less thing you’ll have to think about,” said Chuck Hawley, West Marine’s VP of Product Information. “Not only do these offer a smart, functional alternative to traditional blocks, the design is very appealing.”
Available in three common sizes (29 mm, 40 mm and 57 mm), the T2 can tie, splice or lash to nearly anything and even come in a configuration that allows for a loop to slide slide through the block head and over an anchor post for a secure connection. Both connection methods route attachment line through the block head and sheave, dramatically reducing load on the sideplates. The blocks come with either a length of covered Spectra line or an SK75 Dyneema loop and cost between $21.50 and $39.95.
Customers can visit West Marine’s booth at the Miami International Boat Show, center pod lower level, or online via westmarine.com to learn more about Harken’s T2 blocks or any of West Marine’s 60,000 other product offerings.
