10 Great Reasons to go to the Virginia Beach West Marine Grand Opening

The grand opening of the flagship West Marine store in Virginia Beach on September 12-15 will be four days of fun for the entire family. Here are ten reasons to visit the new 23,000 square foot store in Loehmann’s Plaza on Virginia Beach Boulevard.

1. Free. Family-Friendly Activities for Hampton Roads-Area Water Lovers- Doors open at 8am each day and the grand opening celebration includes door-buster deals, raffles and give-aways, plus a hot dog barbeque from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while supplies last.

2. A Boatload of Charity – At Cruising for a Cause” charity celebration on Thursday night, one-hundred percent of the proceeds benefit local nonprofits involved in boating and fishing. Guests will enjoy music from Lewis McGehee, food from Reginella’s Restaurant, and have a chance to bid on incredible auction items like fishing trips and a stand-up paddleboard.

Time: Thursday, September 12 from 6 -9 p.m.

3. Herb Gordon – For 17 years, ‘The Striper King’ hosted a popular local fishing show in Hampton Roads. Gordon, also a well-known charter boat captain, will lead a Q & A on fishing and the gear necessary to handle any situation.

Time: Saturday, Sept 14 from 1- 2 p.m.

4. Raymarine Mobile Showroom – Raymarine will have a tractor trailer on site equipped with a full array of innovative electronics. Plus, electronic experts from Simrad, Lowrance, Icom and others will be sharing their tips on getting the best electronics for your boat and your lifestyle.

5. Life Jacket Fittings – Representatives from BoatUS Foundation will help adults and children get fitted for life jackets so that everyone in the family is safe and ready for a day on the water.

Times: Friday, Sept 13 from 3-4 p.m.; Saturday, Sept 14 from 1-3 p.m.

6. Capt. Reese Bowles –Hampton Roads’ popular off-shore fishing expert and host of “Catchin’ with Capt. Reese” on WNIS 790AM will share tricks of trade and swap fish stories.

Time: Sunday, Sept 15 from 12-2 p.m.

7. Wooden Boat Building – Amateur boat builder Tom Brandl will teach kids how to create a miniature wooden sail boat. Everyone leaves with a boat of their own.

8. $200 Off Scout Special Edition Stand-Up Paddleboard

Customers can snag a great deal on an 11’4” all-around board made by Jimmy Styks. The board comes with a paddle, board bag and leash. Join the stand-up paddleboard craze!

9. Jet Ski Brian – Local expert Jet Ski Brian knows how to turn a jet ski into a fishing machine. See how to outfit your waverunner with GPS, fish finders, rod holders, navigation lights and more.

10. Virginia Aquarium Stranding Team – Learn about this critical program that rehabilitates animals stranded on shore. Representatives will bring artifacts from their work and talk about the recent spate of dolphin deaths. It’s a must-attend event for anyone concerned about local marine life.

Time: Saturday, Sept 14 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
