Comments about American Specialty Handi-Reel Hose, 50':

Had similar reel hoses before. This is higher priced but with brass vs plastic ends. I drain hose on dock and allow to dry before putting away but you can just roll it up wet and squeeze out most of water while winding back on reel. Takes up significantly less space than regular garden hose. Have used 4 times so far and is holding up. Time will tell if it lasts.

Comments about American Specialty Handi-Reel Hose, 50':

I'm not always near the clean water supply when I'm docked at the marina. This hose assembly is compact, can be kept on the boat, and covers the first 50 feet in a straight line to the vessel quickly and easily. Crank it back up and it empties itself on the reel; much better than lugging conventional hoses around.

Comments about American Specialty Handi-Reel Hose, 50':

As the other reviewer said, it kinks. And when it kinks it cuts off the flow, rendering it useless. The only way to make it work is to lay it out on the dock, carefully curving it around and back to the boat, so there are no kinks. And then hold it at arm's length, making gently swooping motions. Gimme a break ! The other thing that is a pain, is that when you are rolling it up, you must have it laid out in a straight line all the way to the end, and then pinch the hose, holding it higher than the end, and walk along the entire length to get all the water out. If there is even a little bit of water in the hose, it will not roll up into the reel. A major pain. Not recommended.

Easy to stow, but started to leak after a couple of uses at the dock. Now after one season it is worthless

Comments about American Specialty Handi-Reel Hose, 50':

This is the second of these hoses that I have owned. The first one lasted one season. It gets used about every 3 months. The second one I purchased was leaking after only 2 uses. I am very careful with the hose as I know they are fragle but I will not purchase another one. I don't know if it was on the shelf too long but it failed in several places with pinhole leaks after only two uses.

Comments about American Specialty Handi-Reel Hose, 50':

The soft material constantly causes kinks that cut off the water flow completely. These also create weak spots in the seams and "weave" material patterns from the built up pressure causing pin-hole leaks or seam tares'. The older rubber coated - but still collapsible and reel-up - model in past catalogues lasted several seasons and did not have these problems. It was about the same price as well. Granted it had a larger storage reel about 14" across as opposed to 8" or 10". No big deal because it delivered much greater performance (did not kink) and durability, lasting for more than a part of a season.

We picked up one of these at a swap meet 20 years ago, and it has been great. The only hose we've used that imparts no plastic taste to the water. Now showing a few leaks we're buying a new one.
