Product Description

This was the top-rated manual pump in a recent Powerboat Reports test. Although they liked electric pumps better, they called the Topsider ''the only manual we'd seriously consider for changing our oil.''
  • Prime the vacuum pump with 50 to 60 strokes, release the pinch clamp on its suction probe, and return in 8 to 10 minutes to find oil and sludge drained into a 2 gallon container
  • Perfect for changing oil inside cramped engine rooms
  • Not to be used with gasoline

Works Great!

This vacuum pump worked great for me. It can be a little slow but warming up the oil first makes a big diffrence.

Top Rated by Practical Sailor in it's genre, but they struck out on this one. Here's why you get conflicting reviews. There are two hoses, a stiff small one that goes into the dipstick area, which connects to a larger diameter flexible poly hose that connects to the container. The flexible poly hose collapses under the vaccum produced by the pump, and closes off flow, particularly when the oil is at operating temps. Best is slightly warm so the hose resists collapsing entirely and doesn't misshape/flatten the hose permanently. Second problem is there are not enough threads for the pump, so the seal breaks easily. Third problem is the stiff hose end gets brittle over time and can break off in the oil pan. I am on my second set of hoses hoping the company had fixed two of these issues, but no, same problems. I have little tolerance for companies too lazy to solve poor engineering, material or design issues that are otherwise easily resolved. They don't deserve your support.

Comments about Topsider MVP Oil Changer/Multi Purpose Pump:

Purchased this several years ago. Worked OK but not great the first time, then failed-oil wouldn't be extracted due to pressue not being developed. Had to keep pumping it to remove oil. Took over an hour to remove oil from a Sunbird i/o.
Purchased different unit that works fine-wish I had purchaed it originally.

Comments about Topsider MVP Oil Changer/Multi Purpose Pump:

Worked OK the first time, though it took an hour of pumping to take all oil out (OMC King Cobra engine, about 5L of oil).

By the next season, the pump could barely pull anything. Spend your money somewhere else.

Comments about Topsider MVP Oil Changer/Multi Purpose Pump:

I have Twin 525's, the first time used the the MVP on the Port Engine, it worked well, about 10-12 Minutes, when I used it on the Starboard Motor, the Hose's started to collapse. Changed the Oil for the second time this season, hose's need replaced already. I would suggest spend the extra $$ and purchase an electric Oil Pump.

I have a Mercruiser 7.4 that holds 7 qts. of oil. It takes about an hour to drain all the oil out through the dip stick. Extremly inefficient

After using this product. I wouldn't change my boat engine oil any other way now. Very simple to use, just warm the engine to heat up the oil for about 7-10 minutes. Then insert the vacuum hole into the oil dipstick wada boom wada bing your done just what for all the oil to be vacuumed out.

This is by far the best one that I researched online. It's hands down better than any I have ever used in the past. Took only 13 minutes to drain my Twin 454's on my boat, without a drop spilt in the bilge. Great product and I have already told all of my boat friends that it is a must have.
