I applied 6 coats over 6 hours to my sanded teak grab rails in my garage. As the product was curing sunlight passed through my garage windows onto the work causing gas bubbles to appear in the finish where the sunlight struck the work. I had to strip and refinish the rails a second time in a darkened garage. The second time - no gassing. I used no strippers - just sanding on previously teak oiled rails. Finish lasted over 2 years exposed to the AZ sun before it started to lift.

Worst finish I ever tried

This spring I pulled my boat out and found the finish was lifting. I'm having to strip the whole deck and windshield. I'll stick to varnish!

Comments about Bristol Amber Urethane Finish:

Easiest two part polyurethane to apply compared to others I've used. One hour dry time between coats. Did three coats on my teak swim ladder in one day. Slight Amber tint, teak grain show through nicely.

Comments about Bristol Amber Urethane Finish:

Used the Bristol Finish system on oak wine barrel furniture. Have used many different coatings in the past (Epiphane, Interlux, Entex) but liked the results from Bristol the best. Don't know long term results yet, but so far I love the look of the finished product. As stated elsewhere, prep is everything. Read the can and go to the Bristol web site. If used as directed you will have excellent results. Heed the warning on proper ventilation as well. Used inside my garage with not excellent ventilation and had some problems. My bad!! Shouldn't be a problem outside or in good cross ventilation. Great product!

Comments about Bristol Amber Urethane Finish:

This product is a little more difficult to apply, but the results are well worth it. It holds up to hot sun and rain very well. Once applied, upkeep is easy. Caution. It is hard to get rid of drips on gelcoat surface of deck if they occur. only downfall, once mixed, you must use all of mixed portion of product. it gets too thick towards the end, you must work quickly. It helps to keep product cool between coats. Extends the life of product trough application.

Applied correctly this finish goes on easily and lasts for years and looks great. I have used a LOT of different products! This one stands out as one of the best. Other excellent products are Smith's 5-year clear urethane (really more of a clear paint but you must use this were there is NO possibility of moisture or dew) or if you are in a hurry Epifanes Rapidcoat for build followed by Rapidclear is also an acceptable solution particularly when you need to apply finish to a boat in service.

For those who don't like to sand, this is a great product. It will go over most varnishes and will look great afterward. Be sure to sand the areas where the old varnish may be peeling. Dry's fast so you can beat the weather. Apply additional coats before the prior coat has dried completely.
