In an emergency, a quick pull on the Cole Hersee Emergency Cut-Off Switch lanyard stops the engine, preventing accidental runaway. The lanyard connects you to a switch which kills the ignition circuit if you fall overboard, or if you are at an unsafe distance from the controls, thus preventing a dangerous runaway situation. Unlike other devices, this switch can be turned on again if need be by a boater other than the operator.
