Works great on my 20' North River

Comments about MXCP44 Stereo Receiver/Speaker Package:

I wanted a radio with little or no static when boating more than 50 miles from the station. I wanted a radio to listen to talk radio (not music or cassettes). This works perfectly for my needs. I have not listened to music on it, but I am sure that the quality would meet my needs. I am more interested in fishing than music so if the music quality was not that of a very expensive speaker it wouldn't matter. For my needs it is perfect--no static and good sound. My fishing partner has a radio and it does not have the quality.

After a few months of having this unit on my boat I went to use the remote and it's not working. I prety much had to break the thing to get the battery out. Once out I see that the unit has corroded internally and is shot.

Comments about MXCP44 Stereo Receiver/Speaker Package:

I replaced an older Kenwood unit on my boat with this one. I also replaced one pair of original speakers on my boat with the ones that came with this unit, but kept a front set since they were still good. The unit is easy to install and setup. The controls are easy to operate and the multiple source inputs work well (SD card, USB, Aux in). The one gripe I have is that the speakers that come with this unit sound horrible. My orignal front ones are Kenwood and they sound great with this head, but the included speakers sound muffled and don't have much range.

I replaced my old cassette player with this unit. Hey for a hundred bucks with a remote control , you can't really beat it. This unit is no Bose system but for the salt water and as long as electronics hold up in that environment it's all you need. The sound is fine when I'm about half throttle. Anything over half you don't hear anything. As far as sitting on the sandbar and partying it works fine. Plug in the iPhone and crank up Pandora radio and your good to go.

Comments about MXCP44 Stereo Receiver/Speaker Package:

West Marine has offered variations of this radio before and as with the others, this radio is a good choice for the money. Because of marine use, I would recommend the extended warranty. Exposure to water and normal boat vibrations do take a toll on electronics and this radio is no exception.

I would have liked to see more input options and a CD player on this model. Past models had more options.

The remote is good, but line of sight is important for it to work well.
