If you want a cooler that will last for years and that has the strength to stand up to all forms of abuse, you won't go wrong with an Engel. The Engel 65 is now the seat at my center console; you can sit on it and it is rock-solid.

This cooler has 2" thick foam insulation all-around. It's white to reflect the sun. It has a rubber gasket all around the lid to form an air-tight seal when the latches are snapped shut. If your ice is melting fast in this cooler, it's your fault.

It's a cooler, not a magic box of cold. If you let it sit in the sun and then dump in warm sodas and beer with a bag of ice, and open it every ten minutes, then of course the ice will melt. Remember, a cooler is to keep things cold, not make them cold.

As to the reviewer who complained about Engel being "combative" and not standing behind the cooler, it's because they have to deal with people all day who don't know how to use a cooler.

Yes, this cooler is much heavier than some cheap, blow-molded cooler. That's because it's a professional quality cooler. It's got structural reinforcement to allow it to work for years as a seat, step, or casting platform. Tell me when you see a cheap blow-molded cooler with the words "IGBC Certified Bear Resistant Container" on it.

I bought my cooler just over a year ago or so, and while I use it almost daily, leaving it in the bed of my truck with Gatorade, water, sodas, etc...my son plays a variety of sports, I have had problems with it from the start. It does not hold ice for more than a couple of days, and all of the you tube videos show it holding up to five days, and Florida is just as bad as Alabama (that's were a few of the videos were shot). On the very positive side, customer service was great. The problem is that my lid never got an airtight seal, so customer service sent me some new adjustable latches, but from the start they had to be tightened to the max and are now stretching a bit. I've recently been trying the slow drip seal solution, but that only made me realized my problem is worse because I sat on it the other day and I immediately heard a sucking sound as it drew a vacuum seal with my weight on the lid. The moment I got up, I heard the air going out. In all fairness, I have not given the guys in cust. svc a chance to make it good again as I just recently realized how bad it was. They also told me to take the seal out and flex it then reinstall, but I have been reluctant to do this thus far, as I see me creating more problems than I fix going that route. I think I just got a lemon and the cooler and brand are as good as the customer service. I say lemon, because when I first bought it, my 19 year old nephew noticed this lid appeared to be a bit warped which is why I first called the dealer who sold it to me. I got by for a while by using a pad lock on that side with a short enough shank to pull the lid down when locked, but still no vacuum. All in all a good cooler and great customer service, but it has been disappointing have these problems from the start when so much money was expended...for a cooler.

BLOCK ICE HOLDS FOR MORE THAN A WEEK!!!

      By fishboy529

Comments about Engel High Performance Rugged Cooler - 65qt.:

I bought an EN240 for a fishing trip to Cabo San Lucas, East Cape, and La Paz. I drove my own pickup truck down to Cabo San Lucas in August, 2016. Every day was hotter than 95 degrees and the cooler was in the sun the entire time. I bought enough BLOCK ICE in La Paz, Baja California Sur, to fill the ice chest and there was more than 50% ice left in the cooler after five full days in the direct sun. The cooler was in the sun the entire time because once filled it was too heavy for me to unload it by myself from my truck. It performed awesome in very hot conditions.

Grabbed up an Engel 65 for the boat, and have to say it is one on the best investments I have made!! I'll always have a casting platform and will never have to worry about loosing fish to the ice eating, sweltering heat of the South again!

      Somewhat disappointed

      By Sam427

Comments about Engel High Performance Rugged Cooler - 65qt.:

I recently received my Deep Blue 65 cooler, I was under the assumption this was made in the US, instead it said made in Tailand on the box. I ordered it online, so it wasn't like I would have caught that at a store. The cooler looks like it is well built, the latches do seem to be the weak link as someone else posted. I guess time will tell if it really is any good, but for the price they get for these, it should be made in the US.

This is my fifth Engel cooler. It's just as impressive as the first four. The 240 is an awesome fish cooler. It's reduced my fishing ice bill in half!

Comments about Engel High Performance Rugged Cooler - 65qt.:

Not trying to bash Yeti but I owned 2 of them and sold them both after buying my engel! Not only was my engel built with the same quality and durability but it ran circles around my yeti's with keeping ice!
