        Comments about Fujifilm Techno-stabi 14 X 40 Image-stabilizing Binoculars:

I was initially reluctant to buy these binoculars because of the price, but I am glad I did.

I used them extensively during a seven month cruise to Mexico. During the trip I compared them side by side with my older Fujinon 7x35 binoculars which I have always liked. The combination of higher magnification (14 power versus 7 power), larger lenses for more light gathering, and image stabilization make a huge difference. I consistently used the new stabilized binoculars because they worked so much better. Whenever we were underway, we always kept the binoculars at the ready in the cockpit.

As John Neal said in his review, I found the binoculars to be an important safety tool. They were especially valuable when trying to figure out navigations lights at night. With normal binoculars, it is hard to make out running lights because the image jumps around so much. The stabilization feature makes it possible to clearly see other vessel's navigation lights and figure out the other vessel's heading. That was especially valuable in Mexico because most of the fishing vessels down there don't carry AIS. Being able to see their running lights and their heading provides peace of mind. The binoculars are also great when viewing lighted navigation aids at night.

I also found the binoculars really useful during the day. Because of the higher magnification and stabilization, they are a big help when trying to read passing ship and boat names. I also used them when trying to spot navigation aids when entering new harbors. They were fun to use for whale watching too.

One word of caution. After seven months of use, my binoculars started failing with a blinking red LED that indicated some sort of internal error. Fortunately, the binoculars have a one year warranty, and Fujifilm US replaced them with a new pair. Had the binoculars been out of warranty, the cost to repair and completely refurbish the binoculars was quoted at about $300. I purchased the extended warranty, but I hope I won't need it.

Having used these binoculars, it would be very hard to go back to regular binoculars. I consider them an important safety tool. I would definitely buy them again.

        Comments about Fujifilm Techno-stabi 14 X 40 Image-stabilizing Binoculars:

I used these binos on a sailboat in the Caribbean for a week. I could not get the binoculars to focus properly or to go from two images (one for each eye) to one image. I was not pleased and intend to send them back.

We dive, hunt, and fish. These are great to keep watch on our divers, watching the animals come in for hunting to identify age and gender, and spotting birds and debris fishing.

We have had ours for 5 years and use them all the time. Battery life last 6 months.

            Comments about Fujifilm Techno-stabi 14 X 40 Image-stabilizing Binoculars:

I'm using these for offshore fishing in southern california. They are great for spotting terns, kelp paddies, and fish feeding at the surface. They seem to be very well designed and built: waterproof, rubber to prevent them from sliding around on the console, overall very high quality. The Pelican case is excellent.

Cons: They are a bit heavy, so we trade-off spotting duties when offshore. They are a bit expensive, but worth the money.

Surprises: They come from Fujinon Japan, and then are repackaged by Fujinon USA (NJ) into a Pelican case and Pelican package. I was surprised by the packaging so called Fujinon to confirm that the binoculars I received were new, not refurbished. Why doesn't Fujinon USA invest in their own packaging?

Cant beat these binoculars on the water. Have been able to monitor boat traffic while underway with good clarity. Dont let the price scare you, definately a must have if you spen hours on the water.

When trying to identify a nav marker or the name on a ship in anything less than smooth water, these Fujinons are absolutely incredible. We've also found them very useful for watching wildlife. The magnification and lack of jiggle are positively amazing.
