Comments about Fulton HD 5,000lb. Drop-Leg Trailer Jack:
I just received and installed this jack on my boat trailer so how it works out remains to be seen. Maybe a 5 star, maybe a 1 star. I have gone through two of the 2500# Fulton jacks on my EZ Loader trailer in less than 5 years. The pinion gears at the top have cracked in half twice and had to be replaced. The long threaded rod on both jacks rusted quickly and seized. You can lube the pinion gears but there's no practical way to lube the threaded rod. The 2500# jack is a piece of junk. I launch my boat about 12 times a year in salt water. When I get home I thoroughly rinse everything with fresh water and Salt Away. Having said this, EZ Loader may be at least partly to blame. In less than five years I've had nothing but trouble with the trailer, an expensive dual axle, electric-hydraulic disc brake model. I had oil bath seal failures, broken U-bolt breakage, failure of the electrical brake actuator and have had to completely rebuild the brakes. Between the time I bought the trailer five years ago and now, my repair shop says EZ Loader has gone to a different supplier for brakes and they're cheaper and of poorer quality. The response I got from EZ Loader when I complained was basically tough luck sucker. So maybe instead of spending a few extra bucks and using a better jack they elected to go cheap. That seems to be their policy. In the end, it's still "buyer beware". The only positive think I can say is that I got the lowest price from West Marine. It's too soon to know if I'd recommend this jack so for the time being I'd just say yes so my comments will be published.
