Comments about 4-Stroke Auxiliary Outboard Brackets:

I am on my second 71090 bracket supporting a 97lb Honda 8hp outboard motor. The bracket was replaced under the original 5 year warranty. I would not recommend this type of bracket if you run long distances off shore or run in moderate ocean conditions.

The issue is the bracket moves, bounces, flails about all the time in ocean swell, much more so when underway in moderate/lumpy ocean conditions under the weight of the outboard. This causes the bolt holes (holding S/S bolts) in the main aluminum carriers to elongate. With that the main springs can dislodge (why my first bracket failed and was warranty replaced). And/or cause some of the outboard adjustment channels to elongate and crack long due to the elongation mentioned above. The outboard may/will become tilted on its mount from the elongation of the bolt holes (the cause of the failure of my 2nd bracket... just out of 3 year warranty).

This bracket may be appropriate for vessels operating in estuaries, lakes and rivers in calm tro light water/wind conditions.

I see why Garelick has reduced their warranty to 3 years.

Comments about 4-Stroke Auxiliary Outboard Brackets:

I purchased the Garalick Bracket to support a 100lb emergency stand-by engine (Yamaha FT9.9GMHL High Thrust) for use on my Grady-White 225 Tournament over in Phuket Thailand. Operating on the edge of the Andaman Sea/Indian Ocean....there is no Coast Guard. I wanted a super strong bracket to support my emergency stand-by, just in case the Yamaha F250 dies....The Garalick Bracket is super strong and a perfect addition to my Transom.

Comments about 4-Stroke Auxiliary Outboard Brackets:

I'm using it with a 15hp 4 stroke kicker motor that it basically will lift out of the water on its own. I found it to be easy to mount by following the instructions.

Comments about 4-Stroke Auxiliary Outboard Brackets:

Sturdy beyond words!....Poor design....Too large and heavy for a 28' sail boat, although the smallest recommended for a four stroke, springs have to be cut to accommodate an 85 lb. 4 stroke motor.... Polly board is too large......At least a 2" spacer is needed to allow handle to clear the transom enough to work at all.

Not a good fit for my boat

Comments about 4-Stroke Auxiliary Outboard Brackets:

Set this up just as in the instructions. The dry fit looked fine but the handle was right up against the transom. I put it in with 3M 5200 and bolts to find that the upper slot cannot be accessed because the handle hits the transom. My transom is straight so this is a design problem and limits the useful range of the bracket. Now I have a bracket that does not work well semi permanently attached to my boat after a lot of work to install it. That sucks!

I'm putting a 4 stroke 15 hp long shaft outboard on my sailboat and this adjustable transom will do the trick.
