Good ladder bad mounting

By Patrick

from Mauritius

About Me Professional

Pros

  • Easy To Install
  • Safe

Cons

  • Corrodes
  • Poor Design

Best Uses

  • Large Boats
  • Small Boats

Comments about Anodized Aluminum Gull Wing Ladders:

The ladder itself is OK but a little wobbly when you climb it as it moves from side to side. The mounting is utter rubbish having corroded badly in just one year. I do not know what metal was used but if it was Stainless steel it was of very bad quality. Since the cost of postage from Mauritius back to the US is prohibitive I will just order another one pending having one fabricated locally out of decent Stainless steel.

Service and delivery comments:

About Me Advanced

Pros

  • Easy to remove
  • LIGHT
  • Strong

Cons

  • Sharp Edges On Bracket

Best Uses

  • Large Boats
  • Open Water
  • Small Boats

Comments about Garelick Anodized Aluminum Gull Wing Ladders:

1. Very strong and light
2. Easily removed when boat is kept on hardstand, adds a bit more security
3. Ladder fits in kill tank for storage underway
4. Ladder is reversible for left and right footed divers, since one side of steps are lower.
Bracket has sharp edges which need to be ground since the sharp corners can do some damage to an inflatable dinghy.

Service and delivery comments:

West Marine (as always) were excellent in resending missing parts.

Comments about Anodized Aluminum Gull Wing Ladders:

When I wrote down poor design I am referring to the fact that it does not have a safety cable on it. Luckily I added one before I went out because it slipped out of my hand and the safety cable saved it. It was almost an expensive anchor.

Comments about Anodized Aluminum Gull Wing Ladders:

This is the best ladder I have ever boarded a boat with. However I wished it had a secondary wire connector to clip to the d ring at the back of the boat before you hang it over the water to slide and connect it. Thank god I made my own if not it would have been a very expensive anchor. I would have also designed it to angle out away from the boat a little so you did not feel like you are going to fall backwards. Once I installed a handle to grab onto it made it comfortable to climb inside. Other than that it was a strong and secure ladder
