Comments about Garmin echoMAP 50s Fishfinder/GPS Combo, US Coastal/Inland maps, No Transducer:

Was concerned that this unit would be a step down from my North Star GPS, but have had positive experiences with Garmin in the past. Am very pleased so far. Easy to install and use. Compatible with my VHF with DSC. Full of preloaded fishing and navigational data. I am excited to get the sonar hooked up as I have heard good reports. Garmin makes this easy with an adapter allowing me to use my current through hull transducer. Another great Garmin product.

Comments about Garmin echoMAP 50s Fishfinder/GPS Combo, US Coastal/Inland maps, No Transducer:

Installed chart plotter and depth transducer on my 17' Boston Whaler Montauk for a week-long 600 mile circumnavigation of the DelMarVa. I was looking for a chart plotter that would connect to my IPad for easy route planning when off the boat. The echoMAP 50s lived up to expectations and the Garmin BlueChart app worked great.

Only negative is that I installed the swivel base and it vibrates a lot at speed or in a chop.

            Service and delivery comments:

when I ordered this product from west marine, I was told my exsisting transducer would work. to my surprise it did not. I called garmin and was told I needed to change from an 6 pin to a n 8 pin plug. not happy but ok. went to west marine and bought an 8 pin transducer, didn't work wrong model. called garmin again. I asked where in the manual does it state what type of transducer I needed he said your just supposed to know these things. the model number he gave me wasn't even avaible yet. I then called west marine locally and talked to the service person there and he was very helpful. since I had already made one trip to his store and got the wrong one, he didn't want to put me out anymore he drove to my house and delivered a transducer that would work. he said to bring the wrong one back at my convience for a full refund. bravo to west marine in crystal river, fl for going the extra step for customer satisfaction. maybe garmin could learn a thing or two from these guys. now it up and running and love the product.
