Used this for several overnight trips with great success. Light lasted quite a while on low setting with the crank recharging it at a decent pace. The attachment and hanging sections worked well withotut adding bulk to the package. Have always used propane lanterns but this has convinced me to give LED technology a chance. The attention to details has left nothing to chance. The charging cord wraps perfectly and stays in place. It's nice to not have to worry about empty tanks and broken mantles. This will be the high water mark other LED lanterns will soon be compared with.

I bought this lantern twice. Yes, twice. The first time I got it from Amazon and the lens had a scuff mark on multiple sides, almost like it had been used before. I returned it for a new one and used it for the first time on the PCT with my son on a quick overnight backcountry trip. I clipped the lantern on the back of my 70L Gregory pack and was very happy with the light output and functionality of the lantern. The folding legs and ability to change the direction of the light output from one-side to two-sides is nice. I agree with the others that the USB cord is a bit short for recharging, but I think it was a design choice, since the lantern is only so large in diameter to have the cord self-store around itself. You're probably wondering, "so what's the problem". The problem is when I returned home I discovered the lantern was hanging lopsided because the metal hanging ring had come out of one side where its held in by the tension of the bent D-Ring shape. The problem is the metal is just to soft to hold its shape and any kind of tugging or pulling on the hanging ring will easily deform it and make it slip out of its sockets too easily. But, the major problem with the lantern is the lack of scratch resistance on the lens. My lantern came back from one trip with lots of scratch marks on the lens and although they don't block the light, they will eventually and it just makes the lantern look low quality and shoddy. Maybe GZ used plastic instead of glass for weight, maybe they used non-scratch resistant plastic on the lens, or maybe they just didn't test this aspect. The result is a great product with poor durability and craftsmanship. Not the usual GZ standards IMHO. For the price, I would have expected more.

Its a great lantern, bright is the good part. Only problem I had when purchasing on line, was, what exactly came with the lantern. I could not tell if the solar panel came with or was an additional order. But the price made me believe it would not come with the order. I should not have to guess. Anyway love your products.

An Energy Efficient, Space Saving & Sturdy Light

    By Louwood

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern & USB Hub:

Camping is all about energy management, in my opinion. And if you camp, you need light. The basic shortcoming of most electric powered lanterns is that the batteries wear out and spares are heavy/bulky. If you are using gas powered lanterns, fuel becomes a problem as well as the weight and size requirements. Throuw heat generation danger of the lantern itself. And liquid fuel lanterns suffer from fuel problems in addition to the weight, size, heat with the 'bonus' of having to handle a flammable liquid. The Lighthouse 250 is relatively small, light, can be recharged through several means fairly quickly, throws off plenty of light that can be adjusted to a suitable level, And it's rugged. I've dropped it without breaking anything from about 5' onto packed earth. Finally, you have the added benefit of being able to juice up a cell phone in a pinch, if necessary. Then there is the 'cool' factor in the pleasing design. This is a fine product and I do not regret the dough I've spent on it.

    Amazing, Would buy again!

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern & USB Hub:

This lantern is excellent for all types of use. The 250 lumen max power is more than enough to light up a dark camp area, and the lower settings are more than effective within a tent. The ability to power your phone, and recharge the battery with the included hand-crank provide an extra degree of comfort when in the outdoors. And the included USB input cable ensures that you don't forget anything to keep the light powered.

    Broken Recharging Handle

    By OwenG

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern & USB Hub:

I bought this product a little over a year ago and have used it 5-6 times. Works well as advertised as far as all of the specs go. I was sitting on my couch a month ago and decided to try manually charging it for with the crank on top just to give it a try. I had never used it before and it broke off in less than 1 minute of cranking. Love the light but that seems to be a weak point. Unless it has been upgraded in the last year I wouldn't recommend using it unless you are in a real emergency situation. If the crank hadn't broken so easily then this would have been a 5 star rating.

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern & USB Hub:

This is the brightest, most versitle light I've found. Many choices of power saving operation. I keep one by the side of the bed for a night light so as to find the bed after turning the main light off. Dual power goes off a lot also.

Comments about Goal Zero Lighthouse 250 Lantern & USB Hub:

I bought this for my husband for Christmas to go with our new style of camping, off the grid. The light is adjustable and at high intensity perfect for setting up camp in the dark. We cannot wait to use it. The fact you can charge things just sweetens the pot.

This latern, got it a little over a year ago, has a bright light or even a dim one on camping trips, giving a boost on phone charge and about 20 hours battery life.
