I do a lot of "in-the-field" nature/travel photography and use the new Apple Macbook which has the universal USB-C port for power/data transfer/etc. I have a venture 30, sherpa 50, and am awaiting the arrival of my yeti 150. The tips work for my camera battery charger, but I'm using a USB-A to USB-C cable to charge my laptop from the usb port on venture and sherpa. It works, but slowly. I then bought a 12V car adaptor with a 5W 3amp USB-C port to use in the sherpa's 12V port (with a USB-C to USB-C cable). Again, it works, but not much faster than the USB-A ports. It would be fantastic if Goal Zero would come out with a 6mm to USB-C cable for charging the new Macbook (and the many other USB-C devices starting to hit the shelves) directly from the 6mm laptop port, or possibly make a USB-C head to go along with this laptop adaptor kit. I never bought the plug adaptor for the sherpa simply because I would hate to have to bring along a super long and bulky power cord to plug in when a 1ft cable could do the trick to power my laptop. Nothing is available online yet in this power cord configuration. I'll be waiting...

I LOVE the Sherpa. But this laptop kit isn't working to charge my Dell Laptop. It only says.. "Plugged in, not Charging". Not sure what's going on here.

Works for new ThinkPads with third-party adapter

By davidstrauss

Comments about Goal Zero Sherpa Laptop Charging Kit:

Great for long-haul flights and using the Sherpa as a power hub on arrival. With a $7 adapter from Amazon.com [1], you can convert from the included 8mm plug (which works for older ThinkPads) to the new, rectangle plugs. Far cheaper and less bulky than buying Lenovo's plane/car power kit and using it with the Sherpa's 12V car-style plug, which I show in the photo without the power pack. Comments about Goal Zero Sherpa Laptop Charging Kit:

I bought this item to accompany my Sherpa, but when the Sherpa arrived, all these connections were included with the Sherpa. This pack might be for people who bought an older Sherpa before the connections were included??? I'm not sure. I contacted the company about returning these adapters, but it's been a few weeks and I haven't heard back... so, maybe buy your Sherpa first and see if you actually need these.

Power Dell E6430 on Laptop Charging Kit

Comments about Goal Zero Sherpa Laptop Charging Kit:

In a pinch, I recently used my Sherpa 50 to charge my Dell E6430 with the Laptop Charging Kit. The Dell computers are very particular about their power supply. As the laptop is looking for a 90W supply, which the 50 obviously doesn't produce, the laptop doesn't show as being charged. I believe the laptop is charging nonetheless.

The cable has the customary Goal Zero quality, which is quite high. Form fit and function is excellent. It comes with tips for many popular laptop manufacturers.

Comments about Goal Zero Sherpa Laptop Charging Kit:

Although the kit comes with 4 adapters covering many but not all laptops (5.5, 6.0,7.4,& 8.0mm) the center pin voltage of an adapter that fits your computer may NOT work. For example my Compaq nc6400 takes a 7.4mm adapter, but the center pin voltage "built into" the adapter is ~2.2 volts and my laptop requires ~1 volt. Therefore I can not directly charge my laptop with the Sherpa 50. However the DC/AC inverter works fine with my laptop travel AC power supply.
