I had these on my boat less than a year, but I launch every weekend so thats alot of dunking.

Have a internal short inside the light that zaps all my trailer lights, took me a hour to trace it to the light itself ( w/test light) These are good, and reckognized manufacture, wish I would of bought the no question asked insurance from west marine so I can get a free replacement. Over all good light way better visability than stock.
Buy the insurance, its probably around $10
Now I go back and spend another $100 for another set.

had to replace a light twice in 4 years. Cut one open with a hacksaw yesterday and the interior was moist and the electronics corroded. No visible water level from the outside. The housing is plastic and if a tiny crack forms then the interior will get wet and the corrosion starts. For the cost of these, the electronics should be coated so if any moisture does penetrate, the PC boards will last longer.

Comments about Grote Industries LED Trailer Lights for Trailers over 80" Wide:

Was happy to convert to LEDs in a sealed system that I thought might last more than a few weeks in salt water. They began failing after their first use; I took them back, and West Marine and exchanged them for a new set (nothing but praise for West Marine handling issues like this). The new set began the failure routine after maybe two trips. Fourth set of lights on a five year old trailer. This is mystifying to me; my previous boat and trailer went through fewer sets in 20 years. I wish stuff was still made in USA.

Cant move mounting screws because they are part of the "watertight assembly" No way to make them fit a standard trailer.

Comments about Grote Industries LED Trailer Lights for Trailers over 80" Wide:

Installed these lights in 2011 after about 2 to 3 years water seeped inside of the light housing causing the LEDs to stop working. I only trailer in freshwater about 10 times per year so that means the flights are only in the water about 20 times per year for less than five minutes and they are not watertight.

Even with moving the bolt pattern, the lights still did not quite fit my standard Loadrite trailer. Tight fit. Still should be ok.

Comments about Grote Industries LED Trailer Lights for Trailers over 80" Wide:

I purchased a set of these about three years back. I don't trailer my boat very often, only once or twice a year for vacation of maintenance. The right light died after just over a year and maybe three uses. Today I was testing the lights and the left one died while I was getting ready to trailer the boat. While these are supposed to be better than the average light, I don't see the extra expense as being worth it.

Comments about Grote Industries LED Trailer Lights for Trailers over 80" Wide:

Bolt pattern for my standard Shorelander trailer fits... but the taillights are mounted too far to the outside. There appear to be mounting holes to for other patterns that would work perfectly, but no clear way to move the mounting studs without risking breaking the tail light (they are part of the sealed assembly), and no instructions at all including online at Grote, where the part number does not register at all. Also the wiring for the center strip is along the back and does not line up with the exit hole on the trailer, so had to put spacers to prevent having wiring crimped between the trailer and the light strip, which would short out in no time. Standard dual axle Shorelander trailer, 2002, for a 20 foot boat. If I didn't have more than average mechanical experience this would have been a bad install.

On the bright side (haha) LED is awesome, and the kit comes with nifty heat-shrink crimp connectors. You will need a wiring crimp tool to do it right, easy to find at any hardware store.
