Comments about Intellian i3 North America Dish Network Value Pack:
I bought this because it claims to provide the same seamless service as at home. While close, this is not true. During the install, I discovered the need to run a second cable from the dome to the MIM switch. This cable is not included in the package. I called Intellian to inquire if the cable was needed and they said yes. I then asked why it was not included with the package that is specifically for Dish Network systems? Their respnose floored me. They told me that none of the cables included with the system are meant for installation and I need to source appropriate ABYC standard cables myself. They said the included cables are for testing purposes only. I pointed out they still did not provide all the needed cables for testing. They repeated that I would need to source all cables myself.
Also missing from the kit is the power cable to daisy chain the MIM to the ACU. Instead there is a dedicated 120v to 12v power supply for the MIM.
While wiring up the ACU, I could not find a pinout for wiring up the three prong power connection. I had to call Intellian for this info.
Setting up the ACU for the Dish satellite network took a bit of detective work. The instructions are scattered across two manuals. Once you set the Region using the ACU manual, you need to jump into the MIM manual instructions for choosing the right satellites.
Now the satellites used are the Dish network Western Arc satellites, however, while trying to activate the DVR service on the Dish Receiver, Dish informed me I needed to use the Eastern Arc sats. A call to Dish tech support resolved this and they let me use the Western Arc sats for service.
Dish only offers the RV package for this system. The only receiver/dvr that works with this programming package is the one that ships with the Intellian kit. If you record something, you are stuck watching it at the same time. You can't switch to a different channel on the same sat and record in the background.
