INTERLUX InterProtect® 2000E Barrier Coat System

InterProtect® 2000E is a unique two-part epoxy coating developed to protect new and used fiberglass hulls from water absorption which can lead to poor hull performance and osmotic blistering. Formulated with Micro-plates® that create an overlapping barrier to eliminate any direct path for water migration. In addition to use as a barrier coat, Interprotect 2000E is also an excellent fiberglass topside primer.

Quart and Gallon Kits are offered and consist of separate containers of base and reactor. When mixed, kits yield either a quart or a gallon. We also offer, as separate purchases, “short-pour” 3-gallon containers and separate containers of reactor, which when mixed yield three full gallons. The low-VOC formulation, Interprotect 2000VOC, meets all VOC regulations and can be applied in any air quality management district.

This is a great product for faring and waterproofing your cast iron or lead keel and your hull below the water line. Sands well with orbital or long-board sander. Sands super smooth.

Comments about InterProtect 2000E Barrier Coat System:

redoing an old boat with cracked, chipped and otherwise trashed gel coat presented many challenges, however with interlux 2000 2 part epoxy the job was much easier than I could have anticipated. Having read multiple forums about redoing gel coat I went into the project with a certain amount of fear of ruining my boat. after sanding, filling, and fairing the hull I prepared to mix the first batch. My only complaint is that when this paint settles it settles good.... it took about 30 min of diligent stirring to get the base back into suspension. with the 2nd gallon i simply turned it upside down for 24 hours prior to use, and it made the stirring go MUCH easier. Anyway, with a dry brush and a "smooth finish" foam roller I applied the first coat, WOW what a difference! Tipping with the dry brush made the coats lay down nice and flat and gave a very good smooth surface, not quite gel coat however I understand if you spray this product on you can get that "gel coat smooth" look, but this was close enough for me and I get comments all the time about how good the boat looks!

This barrier coat was easy to mix and went on even easier. I used it as a barrier coat for some fresh bottom paint and I couldn't be happier with it. Just sand and clean the surface and roll it on just like at home.

Used this as a bottom paint and then opted to paint the interior floor of my 18' skiff by adding anit-slip media. Goes on very easy for an epoxy paint. Be sure to use the exact 3-1 mix ratio.

Comments about InterProtect 2000E Barrier Coat System:

While the 2000E is a little soft for high polishing (2000 grit) it still makes a great bottom coat for a trailer racer (sailboat). A very fine foam roller is a good applicator. It just takes too much paint to get the airless sprayer set correctly.

The left over product can used as a paint on just about anything needing painting (outdoor furniture, mailboxes, mowerdeck, kids' wagon, etc).

Comments about InterProtect 2000E Barrier Coat System:

In 1997, I spent 30 days removing the copper-based bottom paint because we trailer our boat and did not require the antifouling properties. I filled in every nick, repaired a small crack and washed down the hull with solvent. Preparation is everything.

It only took six hours to apply six coats with a compressor and spray gun. The results were perfect. It has been maintenance free for over 13 years. Due to the boat being 41 years old, there are now a few imperfections that need attending. This is natural for her age.

If you trailer your boat and have antifouling bottom paint, do yourself a favor - remove the paint and seal your hull with this product.
