I replaced an old version of this head with the newer model after purchasing a 25 year old 32 foot sloop. The base on the new model is different, and drilling of new mounting holes was required. This was easily done. What wasn't expected was that the bowl doesn't fill. I've had many other boats, mostly with electric or vacuflush, and the bowl always fills. I even had a manual head of a different brand which filled. So, after installing this head, I ended up thinking it was defective, and exchanging it for another, which, of course did the same thing. Only after a call to Jabsco did I understand that this head doesn't fill. When you pump to flush, water comes in from the rim and goes out from the bottom at the same time. Seems like it will be messy with dry waste. For those times I guess I'll fill the bowl with the shower head.

The old toilet always had an odor and was difficult to flush. The new one replaces a compact and does not take up any more space and uses the same bolt configuration. Looks Great!

      Hard to clog

      By mvb

      About Me Professional

Comments about Jabsco Full-Size Twist'n'Lock Manual Head:

Have a fleet with 12 of the these heads. After about 1-2 years the joker and flap valves become coated with calcium from the interaction of salt water and urine. This happens to all salt water flush heads and allows the water in the outflow pipe to seep back into the bowl from the lack of a perfect seal. No problem if the unit was pumped enough (6-8 flushes after the waste disappears) so that there is just clean water in the outflow hose. Rebuilding can only be done 1-2 times and getting the correct torque (i.e. not too much) to avoid distortion is important. But these heads are very reliable and clog less than older style heads. Add a little veg oil to the bowl keep flushing easily. If the full size bowl fits use it.

Purchased a Jabsco head 12 years ago when we bought our boat, we live full-time as cruisers. has a few glitches but all in all, it does the job it was built for.
Buying another for the new refit only because the unit has discolored over the years and we're sprucing things up a little. the older unit has worked fine with little maintance......

Comments about Jabsco Full-Size Twist'n'Lock Manual Head:

I've had this head for 3 years on a boat in which the PO just installed shortly before we bought it. Very frustrating.
          Bowls doesn't fill.
          Water drains back into bowl(nasty).
Service kit is nearly the price of the toilet.
1 Year after service kit the whole toilet leaks on my floor.
Save the headache and spend the money up front on a toilet that this one will eventually cost as much as.

In 4 years I've rebuilt the toilet and pump system three times. The rubber components of the pump system are cheap; (thin rubber and with parts that are cheap steel, not brass or stainless). As they age, the pump leaks - or worse yet - won't work as at al. Too bad, the overall design, with a few improvements and better parts could be a winner... Save your money for a better quality unit.

I replaced my Raritan 25 year old original toilet with this Jabsco unit. It lasted one season and it allowed water/sewage to back up in bowl. I took it back to West marine and they replaced it as it was under 1 year old. The replacement is doing the same thing after a little over a year. Spend the extra money and get a quality unit. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!!! A little savings in money is not worth the hassle of changing toilets every year as it is an unpleasant job.

Comments about Jabsco Full-Size Twist'n'Lock Manual Head:

we are a live-aboard family, so we use the head a lot. The seat becomes quickly and permanently discolored black through use. When flushing the waste splashes up and coats the inside. Also we have both a Jabsco twist n lock and an older jabsco. The newer twist n lock leaks FAR more. The seal for the twist n lock simply turns into another point of failure.
