The origami crane is a standard, but this folding kayak is a true work of art.
That's right. The Bay Sit-Inside Foldable Kayak. You can impress your friends by folding a piece of paper into a three dimensional bird...if you're seven! If you really want to amaze them it's time to step up to something a little more substantial...actually a LOT more substantial. Oru Kayak's Bay Sit-Inside Foldable Kayak is all that. Launched on Kickstarter, sold around the world and in the permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (remember we pointed out it was a true work of art). Beginners will find it stable. Expert kayakers will find it fast and sporty. Everyone will find it fun. This kayak also packs plenty of room to stash gear for day trips and short camping excursions with the capacity to hold up to 300 pounds (including you and your gear). Transforming it from box to boat takes just a few minutes, and your friends will absolutely think you're a genious. Right up until they go buy one for themselves.
Hull Design
Made from custom polypropylene with a 10-year UV treatment, the Bay Sit-Inside Foldable Kayak is rated for 20,000 folds. That's more than enough times to fold and unfold your kayak every day for over 27 years! The first few times you fold up your kayak it will be more difficult than it looks in the instructional video. This is because the material is not very flexible yet. It will become more malleable over time and easier to assemble and fold back into the box. The Bay features a simple and intuitive strap and buckle closure system with watertight seams and a pair of structural bulkheads for extra rigidity.
The Bay comes appointed with a comfortable foam seat and backrest, adjustable footrest, carrying handles, half-deck rigging and a full 90 liters of storage volume. The large, skirt-ready cockpit (16" x 30") is reinforced for easy entry and fits standard medium size skirts (sold separately).
Great for a variety of casual trips. Throw it in your car, check it on a plane, hike it into remote lakes. Remarkably, when folded, the Bay fits in a box just 32"L x 13"W x 28"H, and at only 26 pounds, you'll discover lots of places you only dreamed about exploring.

Comments about Oru Kayak Bay Sit-Inside Foldable Kayak:

I have used the OruKayak for over 2 years now, and have adapted it for fly fishing in the rivers, reservoirs and lagoons of Puerto Rico. Living in a small apartment and driving a compact car, there is no way I could own a standard 12' kayak. The Oru makes kayak fishing and exploring of the watery world easy and fun. This kayak is very light, fast, easy to paddle, tracks very well and is durable. It only takes me about 10 minutes to set it up and probably less to pack it up at the end of my adventure. I used to own inflatable kayaks -- there is no comparison. The Oru is easier to set up and far faster on the water. It paddles like a standard kayak. With a spray skirt, you can take it out on the ocean. If you get the backpack, you can take it on the plane as check-in luggage, or hike to remote waters with it. If you love kayaking, and storage space is an issue for you, I recommend you take a serious look at the Oru.
