An entertainment system that's 6' long, weighs 19 pounds and is practically indestructible!
Batteries not included (or needed).
There are lots of ways to keep kids busy these days. On-demand movies. Interactive games. Score-free sports leagues. Social media. Homework (doesn't this parent wish). But will any of those things provide them with the opportunity to observe the elaborate courtship display of red-necked grebes in the wild (or you with the opportunity to have "that" talk with them)? Is there a video game that will teach the inner peace that comes from quietly sitting and listening to the sound of waves softly lapping against the shoreline? Or will watching movies about fairies and magical castles jump-start a lifetime of experiencing the world of water around them? Unlikely. But Pelican solves all that with their Solo Youth Kayak. An inexpensive way to introduce youngsters to the joys of kayaking! All you add is water.
The Solo is a highly functional kayak that is simply scaled down for smaller paddlers so the emphasis will be on fun and not struggling with an unwieldy boat that doesn't fit their needs. A great choice for all-around recreational use limited to day trips on ponds, small lakes, sheltered bays and slow moving rivers. Since it's a sit-on-top kayak the open cockpit also translates to less worry for parents and more confidence for new paddlers. And although it only weighs 19 pounds, this kayak is capable of safely floating up to 140 pounds. Its smaller size means it's quite easy to transport and store as well.
Hull Design
The Solo features RAM-XS™ high-density polyethylene derived from RAM-X™, a material exclusive to Pelican, known for its high impact-resistance and ability to regain its initial shape after violent impacts. Its twin tunnel hull is easy to maneuver and provides good stability so young paddlers will quickly gain confidence in their paddling.
Comfort
Molded-in footrests allow for some growing room. Self-bailing scupper holes purge the kayak of water that makes its way inside the cockpit so your young kayaker doesn't have to bail water or sit in a puddle of water all day.
Deck
A handy lay-down bottle holder is found directly in front of the seat to help encourage your child to stay hydrated. Molded-in handles are also found on each side to carry the Solo down to the water. Another kid-friendly feature is the swim-up rear deck with handles to make re-boarding the kayak easier from the water. A molded-in paddle holder up front gives your child a place to put the included junior paddle to help keep it with the kayak when hands are busy with something else. There's also an included safety flag to make sure little paddlers are more visible to others on the water.
If you don't already own one or it's time to replace the one you have, remember to order a life jacket (sold separately) so your budding kayaker will be ready to start enjoying his or her kayak as soon as possible!
