I've used this product for at least five years. Previous years I've noticed that the product was runny however it was very effective at keeping barnacles off of my prop and prop shaft. I recently purchased this product for this boating season and noticed that the name had changed however the ingredients remained the same as the Zinc Barnacle Coating which was reassuring so I purchased the "new" product. I sprayed it onto the aforementioned areas and the product was very cohesive and no longer runny which made me very happy. I will continue to use this product. It is very effective and easy to use. I love it.

I tried this last season on the brass shaft and prop on my sailboat that spends 5 months a year in saltwater in New England. In previous years I had not treated the underwater metal and was looking for a product that would deter marine growth. When I hauled the boat the shaft and prop was at least, if not more, barnacle and growth covered after using this paint than when left unpainted in prior years. The zinc on the shaft wasn't as disintegrated though, for whatever that's worth. After those poor results I decided to remove the paint and that's when I really regretted trying it. It was incredibly tenacious and extraordinarily difficult to take off even with a power sander. I'll never touch this stuff again.

I use this product before putting the boat in the water. I spray the shafts and props with it for marine growth protection. It works well. The running gear remains much cleaner and is very easy to clean in the fall.

Comments about Pettit Paints Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier:

I keep my boat in the water all summer so every spring I take care of bottom, trim tabs, and outdrive. I buy 2-4 spray cans to prime/paint hard to reach areas. Every year 1 or 2 of the cans fail. They either don't work at all or the paint comes out the stem and not the orifice.

I own a 54' custom carolina sportfisherman. My boat is docked on the outer banks of NC in a high shipworm and barnacle environment. I have tried a number of producys on my running gear including propspeed. My Prop guy recommeded this product so I tried it. The first year I only put on one coat with limited success but better than propspeed and a lot cheaper. For the last few years I have put on three coats and the results have been excellent. Its easy to apply and works great.

Had our sailboat hauled in May for full bottom paint. The zinc coat was recommended to reduce fouling on the prop.

We did not use the boat since the bottom job till we recently completed a 300 NM trip where we motored at 5-6 kts for about 180 miles. The zinc coating is largely gone from the prop. So not sure what the expectations are for longevity on props but I'm not terribly impressed.

My fellow boating friend and I first used this product before launcing our boats in the spring on 2011 (Cheasapeake Bay). We sprayed all over all below waterline metals. We just pulled boats for winter storage in Dec 2011 and had virtually no barnacles on any metal surface. It worked very well. Highly recommend it.
