Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors
Independently tested as one of the best, Rocna anchors stand out for their holding power, setting ability and ease of use. Designed to set quickly in all types of seabeds, their unique geometry enables them to orient themselves for fast penetration, regardless of how they hit the bottom. They combine a chisel tip, roll-bar and skids to dig in straight and bury rapidly, typically within one meter, even in thick weed and kelp. Shanks of quenched and tempered high tensile steel make them extremely resistant to the twisting and bending forces present when the anchor is under load. The Rocnas folded fluke geometry resists wind and current shifts and doesnt easily trip out upon load reversal.
Unlike other anchors, extra lead or cast iron weights in the tip are not employed. Instead, weight is efficiently distributed throughout the design for greater strength and increased blade surface area, resulting in superior holding power. This means greater security for cruisers, and a lighter anchor for weight-sensitive craft. Their self-launching design locks home on most bow rollers without having to be guided into place and fits most bow rollers snugly enough to prevent movement while at sea.
Pros: Holds in nearly all conditions and resets itself quickly
Cons: High-quality construction, engineering and testing result in moderately high price
- Style: Fixed-shank scoop
- Material: High-strength alloy steel with hot-dipped galvanized or stainless steel finish
- Application: Most bottom types
- Warranty: Lifetime

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
I used this anchor on the Great Loop, Gulf Coast, East Coast, Bahamas, and the Great Lakes. I think it was worth every penny. I sleep great because I know I'm not going anywhere. This anchor never came loose, it was good in all the waters I found myself while on a year-long sailing adventure. Every once in a while I either scuba or snorkel down to see how it is holding and am amazed at how quickly it buries itself and how it adjusts to currents and tide. I have two friends who followed my advice and bought this anchor and both are extremely pleased with it's holding power.

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
I got a Rocna 72 lb unit for my 46' sailboat. I have been happy with the performance of the anchor so far, it has been in use for one season (6 month in the Bahamas) I have now received a Product Notice, stating that the metal used in Rocna anchor was produced with steel of a lesser grade then advertised. My problem is that the anchor has been fine in the past but I have not had any extreme conditions for its use. There is a possibility that this Rocna will fail in rough weather conditions.
Although the PRODUCT NOTICE says I can return the Rocna anchor to West Marine for a refund, I am left wondering about the other expenses incurred in the purchasing of the Rocna. Shipping expense was a lot because of the weight. My Anchor launching system had to be altered to accommodate the size, weight and design of the Rocna. Granted it was my choice to do this retrofit to my sailboat but it was done based on the configuration and specs provided to me by West Marine and Rocna. According to their testing, the Rocna was superior to most of the anchors available.
I must admit I'm very disappointed with this purchase of the Rocna now, as well as West Marine for not doing there due diligence of research on the product.
I do not know what will rectify this situation.
Do I keep the anchor knowing that the Rocna may let me down at some time in the future?
Do I change the Rocna for a different brand and eat the expense of changing? …….
Maybe West Marine would retest the Rocna's in question and provide the tolerances to the owners, so we can make an intelligent decision to keep it or return it….

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
If you have been following the boating forums, then you have read that Rocna moved their manufacturing from NZ to China a couple of years ago and then began to immediately make their anchors out of a mild steel which is more likely to bend during a side load. Buyer beware!
West Marine sent out a post card to Rocna customers with a notification of this fact. Check their Product Recall web page.

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
We use this to secure the boat for anchoring out - it holds quickly and securely and we have yet to have the anchor not bite on the first deployment. We use a scope of ~ 7:1.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was an issue with us waiting for over 2 months for West to deliver it to the local Chandler. We had to follow up with them on several occasions before receiving info and eventual delivery.

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
The quality of the steel is just fine as is the galvanization. My 50' Marine Trader Walk-around has often pulled sideways and never has bent the very stout stock on this anchor. Note that detractors ignore the basic issue, performance. Prior to the Great Loop, I was "talked into" getting this anchor by an experienced Looper, and have never regretted it. His comment about the value of a good nights sleep was right on.

No more having to drag the anchor and hope it sets. The Rocna sets instantly and holds strong all day, even in changing tides and strong currents. Best anchor I have ever used.

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
We use a Rocna 25 on our 40,000 lb. trawler. We cruise extensively up and down the east coast, and anchor out almost every night. We have never had a single instance of the Rocna dragging or failing to set, in every conceivable type of bottom. Of all the money we have spent on our boat, this was the best purchase we have ever made. We sleep soundly when the Rocna is set. We have three other types of "spare" anchors on board, and have never deployed a single one since we added the Rocna.

Comments about Rocna Anchors Fixed Shank Scoop Anchors:
After 35 years of sailing, most in S.E. Alaska, security of anchorage has become the priority. I've used various anchors over the years including Danforth, Bruce and pivoting plows but none have shown equal to the Rockna. I've had them on my past four boats and have found them to consistently hold when others fail and reset easily when the wind or tide changes. I have no reservations in purchasing another if needed in the future.
