Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

bought the twinpack to replace a worn perco rod holder. The package states heavey duty possitive locking, and shows a marlin in the pic. with that said we took a strike and it snapped the holder right off my 17 boston whaler, lost one 14/0 and rod and bent the brass safety hook wide open. Not to be a quitter. I replaced that one with the secound holder in the pack. Went out two days later, after the 4th Mahimahi on that side, the holder snapped off at the bolt again. I change the brass saftey hooks for stainless carabin and didnt loose the rod. I am hard core West marine so I took them back and received a replacement set and installed another... may be that was a bad set... Ill let you know next time out. Aloha and good fishing

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

Don't waste your money on these holders. Both of the holders that I purchased in the twin pack malfunctioned and lost 1 rod in the drink, while the other broke while I was placing the rod into it. Spend the extra money and buy a higher quality holder...you'll be saving money and equipment in the long run.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

The materials used in the TWIN PACK vs. the Single pack was NOT the same materials !!

The Twin Pack had all Stainless parts

The Single Pack had Zinc? mounting portion.

I bought 2 twin packs originally, then wanted to add 4 more holders so I bought the singles on-sale... after getting them out of the package, realized the differences in materials, took them back and got 2 twin packs instead. Cost more, but I'm not a fan of Zinc composite material.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

I purchased a 2-pack of these exact rod holders on 7/16/09, and I mounted them to my boat shortly thereafter. I would have to say after recently reading all the reviews I became very concerned that a rod might eventually and suddenly "fall into the drink" while underway.

Today, concerned, I spent a half hour taking these apart from my boat and inspecting them. Not only is it not true that the center attaching bolt is barely long enough (it is plenty long), but it remained tight - was not loose - whatsoever. Additionally, when the holder is mounted to my bimini frame, there is simply no room for the center bolt to become loose and subsequently "back out" from the hole because it will be forced to stay in place by the bimini frame tube on which it is mounted.

One reviewer advised that the center bolt can split, and I am not able to confirm nor deny this, but I will tell you I am not concerned at this point. I put each of the 2 holders back together, tightening up all the bolts, and will waste no more concern. I hope I won't end up eating these words. If indeed the center bolt is prone to splitting, perhaps West Marine can chime in here and let us know. Or better yet, anyone who has experienced a split center bolt please chime in and let us know.

Great product, I'd buy more, but only when they are on sale because IMHO they cost too much.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

The concept is good, the execution is horrible. The center bolt that attaches the rod holder to the mount is low quality. I've had at least two different units break along the bolt. One time I lost a very nice rod and reel setup to the drink due to this. The more you tighten the bolt to keep the adjustable mount snug, the more you strain the cheap bolt, increasing the likelihood of a failure. I will never buy this product again.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

Once properly installed with rods mounted, you have to agree that this gives the boat an organized, ship-shape appearance...at the dock.
Once under way you are on borrowed time before one or more backs off its bolts and disassembles itself while under way. In addition to loss of expensive equipment, there is the real danger that rigged rods will be bouncing around the boat with hooks flailing!!! Agree with the recall/redsign suggestion.

Comments about Stainless Steel Clamp On Rod Holder:

Iv had these for 3 years now and finally gave up on them. I used them to clamp onto my t top and they worked fine for at the first few months. Eventually the vibrations from the boat will loosen the 2 screws that hold the tube onto the clamping bracket. When that happens it will come crashing down onto the deck of your boat, or someone's head. Now you have to try and finagle the screws back into position which is made EXTREMELY difficult by them being set back between the face plate and the bracket backing. This will happen again, and over time you will strip the screw heads out. You can't even put thread locker on them because of how this thing is designed. Totally poor design, I regret having ever spent money on such pieces of garbage. Wesmarine should look getting rid of these.

Nice rod holder for the money but you get what you pay for in lifespan......worked fine until it didn't and then we lost an expensive rig in to the drink as we were trolling when the rod holder just gave out and fell off....it must have been deteriorating from behind where we did not notice as it just cracked off and fell without any provocation. Must admit we had it on for about a year in fairly direct tropical sun and splashed by salt water, but it is a boat, so......
