When I bought this hose I thought it seemed lighter than our old hose. We live aboard so we are using a lot of water through this hose. At first the water had a strong chemical smell. Then green algae began growing in the hose. After searching the web, this seems to be a common problem with this West Marine hose - MADE IN CHINA, so thin that sunlight can pass through causing the growth. Back to a MADE IN THE USA hose.

This is a good hose for bringing water to the boat. No hose taste, solid connectors and decent looks. I tried an RV water hose from [...] last year. Much cheaper but never lost the strong hose taste. It became a garden hose within a couple of weeks.

I've had mine for about 4 years and for the past year i've had a problem with it. I do not use it for drinking water, and wouldn't recommend it for that use. When i first run water through it, the water comes out red and has a terrible odor. I threw it out today.
