Comments about West Marine Transom Drain Tubes:
I decided to replace my skiff's drain tube when removing the plug became next to impossible. A copper pipe cutter was used to trim the tube to proper length. I brushed some 3M 5200 around the transom hole and pushed the tube through. I fabricated a DIY taper tool with a 3/8" bolt, nylon nut and two washers. Make sure the washer going on the bolt on the side inside the boat clears the floor if applicable. I wrapped electrical tape around the bolt where it is inside the tube to keep it centered. I removed the nylon out of the nut and installed it backwards to start the bevel. I could only crank on the bolt a little until the end of the tube started to take a hex shape. I used the round end of my ball pein hammer to make a bell shape and then installed the nut and washer on the bolt. As I tightened the nut, the drain tube pressed perfectly against the transom. Job done.
