Comments about 200 & 400 Series Spin On Replacement Elements:
I purchased this unit to install on my sailboat. Before I installed this unit, I attempted to unscrew the filter from the aluminum housing. I did this to ensure that the filter could be removed and changed if necessary while I was out cruising.
I tried for 2 hours using a filter strap, filter wrench and a vise on a work bench at the marina. I also had a friend who works on offshore oil rigs help me. We were unsuccessful in removing the filter from the housing and we began to destroy both the filter and the housing.
I believe that the filters are assembled at the factory with an air wrench with such torque that the end user is literally unable to remove the filter.
Anyone who buys this product should make sure and remove the filter from the housing before installing this unit in a boat. Then coat the gasket with some diesel and hand tighten it onto the housing. The only reason not to do this would be if you believe you will never have to change the fuel filter.
I believe that many of these filters have been installed on boats, and when the boater needs to change a filter, possibly in a storm or in rough conditions, the filter will be physically impossible to change. This could lead to loss of the vessel and/or loss of life.
