Comments about Ronstan Spinnaker Pole Slides:
This spinnaker slide looks plenty beefy. Much heavier than the one it replaced. The nylon slide makes it easy to adjust and the pin-stop works well and is secure. Had good luck with it for the last 1-1/2 years. A week ago, I would have given it 5 stars.
We were out for the first race of the season last week. We blew a spinnaker set on a 30 ft. masthead sloop in ~15kts of wind. The downhaul got away from us and the pole skyed. Didn't think much of it at the time, but when the mess was cleaned up, found that the ring on the slide was bent down about 30 degrees. The sheet metal that folds around the mast track is also distorted. The slide still works, but I don't trust it and am replacing it. If you have a 1-1/4" track, it appears to be the only choice from West Marine.
So, plenty beefy for horizontal loads, but don't let the pole get away.
