Comments about Lewmar Horizon High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

The "Bruce" anchor was first used to secure deep water oil rigs in the North Sea. Because of extreme depth it wasneeded to have an anchor that can reach max holding power with min scope. this anchor will set very fast and is ideal in tight anchorages when you can't put out lots of scope.

Comments about Lewmar High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

The small versions of these anchors hold very well even on short scope when paired with 10 feet of chain. Unlike "danforth style" anchors which can bend fairly easily in small sizes, these cast anchors are nearly indestructible. The lack of a cross bar and sharp points makes them good for use in inflatable boats.

Comments about Lewmar High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

Our lake is very open so a short, steep chop hammers our boat when we anchor. The CLAW sets deeply in the sandy bottom and so far, has held anything Mother Nature has thrown at it, PLUS some very large (4-5ft) wakes from passing boats. My wife actually commented that I was relaxed on the beach instead of ready to sprint to catch the boat when our old anchor would let go.

Comments about Lewmar High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

I use this anchor on my Ranger R21 Classic Tug. It is probably over-sized for the boat, but I believe in having anchors that are too big, because when you really need it, too big is comforting. This anchor is very solid and provides great peace of mind. When retrieving it after a strong storm, I found that it had dug thru the silty lake bottom into the underlying shale - which is about 3 feet. I know this because there were shale particles on the flukes (I am a geologist and know this stuff). The anchor fits well in my bow roller and deploys easily. It is a little bit of a challenge to retrieve without a windlass but that is a suitable trade-off for having the security of a bit larger anchor. Be prepared to use the inertia of the boat to extract the anchor from the bottom. The finish of the anchor is a little rough, but is looks very serious hanging there on the bow.

                  Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was interesting. It came with the FedEx tag strapped to the eye of the anchor...no box, just shipped bare-naked. The FedEx guy really had a chuckle. Delivery was on-time.

Comments about Lewmar Horizon High Tensile Steel Claw Anchors:

I can't imagine where this wouldn't work well in soft or sandy bottoms. We use these anchors in shallow portions on the margin of the Bering Sea. 11 and 16.5 pound anchors work well on boats in the 20-25' range. I wouldn't hesitate to use heavier ones and expect equal satisfaction on bigger boats. For muddy, sandy bottoms, and rocky beaches, they beat the more common Danforth/fluke-type anchors hands-down. The only downside to these anchors is the fact that they can set "too well" in muddy bottoms; a good storm won't drag them, but it sets them very well!

Highly recommend for applications where it is suited.

I have a Seadoo jet boat and with awful feedback on the PWC anchor kit, I bought this one - glad I did. Very easy to set in sand and holds all day (even with strong wake) Fits in center deck storage compartment.
