Comments about West Marine Spreader Boots:
I bought 2 sets of these spreader boots last spring for my J29. The first race we sailed with them we noticed the genoa was difficult to tack.
It was immediately apparent it was because the spreader boots were TOO soft and "sticky" not allowing the genoa to slide smoothly past. I sprayed them with McLube sailcoat and this helped until the Mclube wore off. At the end of the season these spreader boots were completely trashed. My previous spreader boots were "Taylor Made" and lasted 4 seasons with no problems.
