Hello I am Todd Crocker of Fusion Electronics. I review customer ratings and would like to comment to the negative review listed on the FM504. Our amplifiers are definately not waterproof and we represent them properly in all of our literature, web site and on the West Marine site.
We have sold thousands of this amplifer during the last three years. We have a number of boat manufacturers using them all over the world. I can advise that the failure rate of this product overall is very, very small... In fact this product has actually been one of our most reliable products.
We do not recommend installing any of our amplifiers in the open enviornment. However, an installation on a boat that is sheltered from the elements as any amplifier should be will not be problematic.
We warrant and stand behind our products and are confident that if you check with West Associates I beleive they can confirm this product has been reliable and a successful product in the market.
