ProTech i Series Battery Chargers
Keep all your batteries charged and ready for action!
These chargers use proven advanced electronic technology and innovations like fully automatic global AC power input (accepts 50 or 60 cycle power with voltage from 95V-250V). Fully automatic multi-stage charging includes four complete stages for fast charge times, proper conditioning and maintenance of each battery, in addition to a dockside power supply mode. A user-programmable Absorption cycle maintains flooded batteries by desulfating battery plates which extends battery life. Automatic float maintenance keeps all batteries fully charged. ProMariner’s Distributed-On-Demand™ technology automatically senses battery bank state-of-charge and distributes charging amps where they’re needed, sending 100% of available charging amps to any one bank or combination of banks. Includes battery type selector for use with flooded, AGM or Gel batteries. 1240i Plus model also includes Active Battery Balance Control feature, an innovative feature that allows smaller group-size engine batteries to be charged and maintained while fully charging larger 4D or 8D house batteries. Batteries are fully charged and maintained without overcharging smaller engine batteries.

Comments about Professional Mariner ProTech i Series Battery Chargers:
I needed a 40amp charger as a back up charger for 7x 8D's and another couple of banks of acid batteries. After looking at the reviews, I decided to buy this one over the Xantrex 40amp, but wanted to check how hard it was to connect it. So I took it out of the box and checked it in the shop.
Lucky I did.
We will be using this manually, turning on and off the various battery banks as needed.
The controls on this unit however, are located under the bottom panel, so you'd have to unscrew the panel, then try to poke your finger in and move tiny little switches (I'm 110lbs and it wasn't easy for me).
So, it would probably be perfect if you just want to program and leave it, but if you need to control it manually a lot of the time, then it probably wouldn't be suitable for you.

Comments about Professional Mariner ProTech i Series Battery Chargers:
I have just finished intstalling the 1240i unit for the purpose of maintaining a 2 4D house bank and a starter battery (same chemistry). I couldn't agree more with Mark, finding the fuses, fuse holders, the correct sized terminials, bus bar, crimper for such large gauge wires, etc., was frustrating and expensive. In Professional Mariner's defense the components required depend on your particular installation so can't feasibly be included.
The installation was, however, straight forward (but lengthy and a pain).
A check today showed that after an overnight fast charge, then conditioning, and now in a maintenance phase all three batteries are at textbook voltages.
Pros
- Install and forget

- Waterproof
Cons

Comments about Professional Mariner ProTech i Series Battery Chargers:
The top of the line, most expensive unit was the only unit according to their factory rep that would charge my 2 4d batteries. Installation wasn't that hard, but finding that the necessary wiring and fuse---not included in the package--- was not available in hardware or West Marine stores was frustrating. A little improvision and using less-than-specified wiring and fuse applications made it work. After install, the unit has worked flawlessly, and I have had no issues in the 12 months it has been installed.
