The gears would pop and the boat would start sliding back. We had the largest winch available and the thing took two people to pull up. One to hold a rope around the trailer for when the winch slipped and the boat went backwards. took it right back to W.M.

Comments about Fulton F2 Manual Trailer Winches:
Very nice product and I definatley will recommend this to friends. Its sleek design adds a nice look to my trailer. The ease of selecting foward, reverse or nuetral with the turn of a knob is genious. No trying to figure out some little lever and nearly cutting your fingers off. Only problem I had (and it may just have been with my trailer) is that I had to trim a 1/4" off the back side of the housing for it to fit on my winch base plate and clear the vertical post. No biggie. The other thing is that the product says it will bolt in the existing standard bolt hole...not true. The holes on the winch housing slide in and out; with the spacing to the maximum spacing it was still about a 1/8 of an inch short on matching the standard hole pattern. So I did have to drill another hole. Again no biggie.
Prodcut is great in my opinion. I have a 1986 Shorline trailer so it may just be that specific trailer, that I had to make those fabrications.
Pros
- Better than standard equipment
- Durable, corrosion resistant
- Reduces maintenance
- Safe and secure
Cons
Best Uses
- Works great on boat DUH
