Comments about Xantrex Freedom HF 1000 & 1800 Inverter/Chargers:
I used this as a shore power charger and 12v to 120v inverter on a 250ah 8D AGM battery. It worked great and charged well initially. The charger failed in less than a year and drained the battery ($600). The Battery, also new, has never recovered from the full discharge. Xantrex has not returned calls or emails to troubleshoot their product.

Comments about Xantrex Freedom HF 1000 & 1800 Inverter/Chargers:
I have had the HF 1000 installed on my sailboat for 2 1/2 years. All the AC outlets on the boat can be driven from Shore Power or the Inverter.
Charging is automatic whenever the boat is plugged into shore power
A display / control panel can be remotely mounted for ease of use.
The unit works as designed but one design feature is very bad in my opinion. When shore power is int erupted, the unit automatically switches to inverter mode. So any AC appliance you have plugged in is now running off your house batteries. This may be ok if the interruption is brief and/or you are aboard. However if the interruption is long term and if you are not on board, the house batteries can take a big hit. There is no way the user can disable this feature.
While I generally like the HF 1000, this auto switching feature is a fatal flaw and I would not recommend this unit.
