Product Description

A new generation of jerry jugs, these special fuel containers feature a spill-proof fueling system that meets new, tough ARB regulations in CA, NY, MD, DE and PA. Those environmental regulations prohibit the sale of open, vented fuel cans within the state. Containers are made from HDPE and DuPont’s Selar RB Barrier resin to meet strict permeation requirements. The ECO Spout is easy to use and helps to prevent spills. Fuel flow will automatically stop when the container is full. Spout closes automatically. All ECO Fuel Can products shown have been UL-tested and approved.

Comments about 5 Gallon Yellow Tall Jerry Can:

I bought this diesel can from West Marine to store extra fuel. The new design for the spout is now mandated in many states - including Maryland. Probably looks good on paper - wasn't designed by anyone with an ounce of boating experienc! This spout is an "Eco" design to prevent spills with a "auto" shut off valve. The problem is that with even half a can of fuel, the weight makes it extremely difficult to balance the spount's edge clip on a fuel tank opening so that it opens the valve to let fuel flow into the tank. Mine broke the first time I tried to use it and I spilled some fuel on the deck. Thankfullly, fuel-absorbant blankets were spread out first just in case of a monor spill/drops (as I do with all re-fueling).

The can itself is fine. I like the hand hold location. But I'd NEVER buy one of these cans with this new "better" designed spounts again. It's cheap plastic that can't stand up to the task. There are refits on the internet, thankfully. MD isn't doing boaters any favors mandating this design.

Comments about 5 Gallon Yellow Tall Jerry Can:

As I was going to use this portable fuel tank to pour diesel underway I could not get the spout to open up or pour any diesel at all. I am used to these types of systems and this particular spout design is a bad design - in essence 'too safe' :-) as it did not let any diesel out whatsoever. I have been sailing for 15+ years and this is the first time I could not figure something like this out. I am keeping the tank, but will be replacing the spout with a 'good old' one. Otherwise the unit is well made and strong

Comments about 5 Gallon Yellow Tall Jerry Can:

The worst fuel can I have ever used. Poor design and cheap construction. Cap does not tighten securely. Small parts to lose overboard. Can is not vented for good flow. And the eco spout does not work, plain and simple. Spills more fuel than I have ever spilled with any other kind of can. Impossible to use on a boat that is in the water. A complete failure of a product. Makes you wonder if the guys who make these cans ever use them ...

Spill Causing , not Spill Proof

Comments about 5 Gallon Yellow Tall Jerry Can:

I use two of these "CARB" compliant cans for extra fuel on the deck of a sailboat. The overall contstruction of the cans is great, but the "spillproof" design has caused me to spill more fuel than ever before. The spout does not work as intended, especially in the deck fill of a boat. The spout either won't open or won't close. To make matters worse without a vent in the can attempting to pour into a funnel without the spout creates a huge mess.
I'll be replacing these cans with vented ones in Mexico.

To may parts to cap system. Too easy to drop a cap part overboard when filling you water tank. Would like for the caps to be sturdier.
