Product Description

Designed for boats with multiple fixtures, these pumps provide “Just like home” shower pressure, yet can operate at low flow conditions without cycling. A built-in mechanical bypass function enables the pump to vary the flow rate for any demand condition, without the need for an accumulator tank. Motors are heavy-duty, with electro-coated seamless shell, O-ring sealed end bells, and fully sealed wire entries on the motor shell and pressure switch. Inlet strainer and 1/2" hose barb fittings are included. Pumps are ignition protected, thermally protected and can run dry without damage

Comments about Shurflo Aqua King II Freshwater Pump, 5 GPM, 24V:

Was planning on using a Par Max Plus 7gpm which appears to no longer be made, then was going to go with a Par Max Plus 6gpm but they were out of stock for the foreseeable future and this pump was available with the note about being noisy.

I decided to give it a try and after some effort it appears to be a good, quiet pump. However, here are some of the things which were required to get it that way.

The included strainer (worth about $8 so no big deal to throw away) is both undersized and when mounted on the pump provides a significant moment arm when the pump vibrates and could have a significant risk of cracking the pump head. The included straight 1/2" pipe fittings to go from their straight parallel threads to hose resulted in a very large area required and not great vibration isolation.

Plumbed into a 1/2" intake the pump tended to cavitate resulting in significant noise. I replaced the inlet fittings with the 3/4" hose barb versions, used a Groco 3/4" mesh strainer, 3/4" line from the tank to the strainer and then directly to the pump. The output line is now also 3/4" line (the white stuff from west marine). Inlet makes a 180 degree large turn into the pump for vibration isolation, the output line goes 360 degrees. Both lines are wrapped in soft insulation and cable tied to the bulkhead about half way through their turns.

The pump is very quiet in this configuration, the flow bypass feature does appear to work very nicely keeping the pressure up for slow showers and the like without significant cycling.

The vessels system has two large accumulators which I set to 35 PSI with the system pressure off. So far so good, in use on a cruise for about a week at this point.
