Comments about Sierra OMC Ignition Switch:

Good quality switch with positive detents at each position. Key cannot be removed except when the switch is in the off position. Screw terminals and screws are well-machined and confidence-inspiring.

Don't blame the switch, it's manufacturer (Sierra International), or West Marine if your switch has bullet connectors (1996 and later). Sierra International lists this as a replacement for OMC part numbers 393301 and 508180, which have screw terminals. To use it as a replacement for an OMC bullet connector switch, simply cut off the female bullet connectors from the wires and replace them with spade terminals (18-22 gauge should be the proper size).

Concerns about corrosion are largely unfounded since OMC successfully used screw connections like these for decades. Of course you should use some dielectric grease on the connections, buy that is just common sense in the marine environment.

Comments about Sierra OMC Ignition Switch:

I have used Sierra brand in the past and it is quality merchandise. This switch, while it may be suitable and work fine, requires modification to work with the factory harness. Specifically, the factory harness uses bullet connectors on the back of the ignition switch that connect to a pigtail with a waterproof plug to connect the wires. On this switch, there are screw connections so the bullet connectors on the factory harness would have to be cut off and a different connector would have to be affixed to the wires before it could be re-connected to the harness. This exposes wires to the salt air more than the waterproof bullet connectors that are from the factory.

The factory switch costs about twice as much as this product so that may be a reason to use this over the more expensive one. I chose to pay the higher price and then just "plug and play" rather than have some cutting and crimping before I was back in business.
