Product Description

Offering professional level performance with powerful networking and integration capabilities, the Simrad NSE “NS-Expert” Multi-Function Displays are stunningly fast, full-function chartplotters right out-of-the-box, supplied pre-loaded with HD Insight (USA only) cartography. Both 8" and 12" sizes come with a lightning-fast 1.6GHz processor, a high-brightness, LED backlit, bonded LCD display, alpha-numeric and QuickTouch direct access keys, and a fresh, yet familiar intuitive user interface. But that’s just the beginning because the Simrad NSE Multi-function devices let you add a wide range of high-performance modules and transducers to extend their capabilities to include echo sounder/fishfinder, radar display (including HD Digital radomes or arrays and Broadband 3G™ and 4G™ radomes), AIS transceiver, engine performance display and much more, all accessible from a single screen (additional screens can be added as required) and displayed in the format and combination of your choice. You can also control your Simrad autopilot with your NSE, with no need for a separate controller. These displays support full AP24 and AP28 autopilot integration, eliminating the control head and saving space in tight dashboards or NavPods. And it’s all easy to install thanks to its SimNet/NMEA 2000 compatibility—just plug in the new unit and the NSE will recognize and configure it automatically.

Comments about Simrad NSE8 Chartplotter / Multifunction Display:

The brightest display I've seen in a multifunction display. The rotary control knob makes navigating menus and zooming very easy, the alphanumeric keypad makes labeling very easy. Front USB port allows for easy transfer or saving of data. The NSE has a very large hard drive so it will store an outrageous amount of waypoints, routes and tracks. I currently have over 1500 waypoints, 132 routes and about 30 tracks all saved. Lots of options to customize such as selecting different colors for routes or track lines. The sounder works excellent, the radar is great and the MARPA feature works very well. Zooming and chart redraw are is also very fast. The biggest downside is that there is currently no option for the vessel's extension line to indicate COG, only heading which if in strong currents does not accurately show your course. The other downside is the front bezel that snaps into place comes off every time the cover is removed. Not a very tight fit but I understand this is being addressed.

Overall its an outstanding multifunction display that is easy to see and easy to use.
