used it 30+ times on NorCal's American River over the last 3 summers. Only one small hole and the patch has held perfectly for 2+ years. The extra V hull chamber under the inside floor chamber has added extra protection for floating over rocks/branches. Never inflated the V hull. Bought our for [$], so watch for the sales([$])It is best used for two adult and a small ice chest, unless you want to sit on the sides. Size puts the oar locks in almost perfect location for rowing. Want more room, get the larger one. The carrying bag is too cheap/thin. Floor plug a little hard to remove, now we use pliers for that. Buy a 12 volt pump, makes inflation easy. Use bellow pump that came with it to finish for higher pressure

We purchased this dinghy about a year ago to use as a tender to get from boat to shore - short distances using a paddle. We decided to purchase a 2.5hp engine because we wanted to use dinghy for longer distances. When we first put engine on dinghy it was evident that the weight of the engine was too much for dinghy as the bow tipped ~ 45 degrees in the air. When starting engine without weight in bow of boat it is very unstable. Dinghy works very well if you want to paddle or use an electric motor but not with a 2.5hp engine. Would definetly not plan to use this dinghy for long distance motoring. Wishing we had purchased a dinghy with at least a solid transom. In the end you get what you pay for.

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

I read all the reviews and for my use this was the perfect pick. We use it only twice a year for 1 week sailing trips. I've run it into some rocks and rough shores and no holes or even scrape marks. Have had it for 3 years now. No leaks. Packs up well. Used an electric 36lb motor and handles great. Only complaint is the motor mount. A bit of a pain to put on and take off, but we use it for a week at a time so not so bad.

Purchased a little over a year ago, just took out of bag the other day, inflated and launched. It leaks somewhere between tube and floor seam. The transom engine bracket is not up to the job of handling a 2hp. honda outboard. I think anyone will regret buying this inflatable.

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

I've now had this for 2 seasons and it's holding up great. I bought the $100 trolling motor and the dignhy and motor can handle 4 adults in calm waters. Usually it's my husband and I and 5 year old son. I have had 4 large adults in the boat at over 700 LBS with the trolling motor- no problems whatsoever. I've also had 3 children 5-8 and 2 adults with room to spare. I would highly recommend this dinghy to anyone- it gets me around my very large marina, I use it as a tender to little beaches once anchored out, and we drive it up the local rivers to restaurants. To be clear- when purchasing this you are not going to take it out on the open ocean but to just get around and have a good time- it is well worth the cost. The bag that it comes with for storage is garbage and you'll never get the boat back into it. Other than that, I would buy this again and again.

Have had a leak in #1 chamber from the date of purchase. West and the MFG. will do nothing...Have to add air every two to three days.
Leak in in the seam not a puncture or any misuse.
Stays out of water on stern of cruiser and is used just to get to the beach.
It's a nice little boat! But don't expect and service or replacement. It's only 58 days old

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

Let me start by saying this little boat is fantastic. Don't stop reading. I used this boat in a sheltered river with an electric trolling motor. with a max of three people. I can not imagine this boat with a bigger motor that 42 lbs thrust. I also can not imagine this boat in any kind of conditions that would have waves greater than six inches. For what it is it's perfect. As a low cost alternative to a RIB or other type of serious dink... yeah no. I wouldn't even dream of strapping a gas engine on this thing. If you are in the market for something that you are going to putt around in calm conditions in then this is your boat. If you are looking to save money and not get a RIB or other type of more serious inflatable by getting this. I would think long and hard. Again, I think this little boat is fantastic and I enjoyed two years of exploring a calm sheltered river in it but don't be mistaken this is not an alternative to a more sturdy and surely more expensive boat.

floor started to leak air into inflatable keel after about 6 weeks of use. Now it floats but you sit on a mountain in the middle of the boat and it is impossible to steer. Pity, overall nice design.

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

Was given one of these. For what it is I have zero complaints. The only problem I have had is that the orings degrade around the seals. We were able to explore the entire river we are in with out an issue. and even with the oring problem it wouldnt need air for at least 2-3 days. Was a somewhat wet ride when it got a little choppy near the mouth of the river. But again its not really made for that.

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

This boat worked great for about 2 years. The floor chambers have an issue with split "welds" in the ribbing. I cannot get all of the air out, yet when inflated the floor becomes balooned. I will make a hard wood floor to salvage the boat a few more years. I use a 2.5 HP water cooled Nissan on this boat, but the prop is out of the water without my weight in the boat. This rig works great to take anywhere in a car trunk. I keep it in a compartment in my RV so I always have a boat when I travel. Keep in mind this is NOT for offshore use. I would never get too far from land with it.

Much more durable than I expected. Definately get a 12v pump to deflate--> that will make a "vacuum seal" and it stores easily. The 2.5HP outboard I have was a little too heavy, but it works as long as I don't open it up.

Comments about Solstice 4 Person Dinghy:

I can repeat others' views that this is indeed a quality inflatable. I like the inflatable floor with the V-hull for tracking straight. But what I don't like, and can't seem to understand from a design standpoint, is why the transmom mount is so high. My 2HP Mariner sits in only enough water to cover the prop at idle. Though it is on an angle, I can measure from the center of the prop to the bottom of the U-brackets that rest on the transom and get about 20.5". My father's 2.5HP Suzuki is the same. Most inflatables lower the outboard down so 1) the prop is in enough water to propel forward and 2) the prop sits below the bottom of the boat. Neither of these points are met with this design. What is even more surprising is that no one else has noted this in these reviews. This is a very, very poor design.
