Product Description

Hydraulic steering for outboards to 150hp

Controlling large outboards with mechanical steering may require lots of effort. On the other hand, traditional hydraulic systems may be more than is needed on lower horsepower engines. BayStar brings safety, reliability and comfort of hydraulic steering to outboard powered boats like inflatable RIBs and runabouts with a maximum 150 HP (total) or less. The super low friction helm pump provides smooth comfortable steering. The balanced cylinder features a compact design that easily fits most splashwells 23" or less. BayStar Kits come complete with everything needed for an install. The cylinder utilizes the factory outboard engine supplied drag link for simplified installation. For your convenience two lengths of 20' cut to fit tubing are supplied (2 x 20' length). Kit includes Helm Pump, Cylinder, Tubing Kit, two bottles of hydraulic steering fluid and one fill tube for easy fill and purge.

  • Boat Type: Single station, single engine boat with outboard up to 150HP. Not for lower-horsepower outboards that use wing nut type transom mount clamping screws
  • Compact helm has only a 5" footprint, and requires only a 3" dash cutout. 4.5 turns lock to lock. Steering Wheel: Not included. Steering Wheel Shaft: 3/4" tapered
  • Included Equipment: Helm pump HH4016, cylinder HC4645H, tubing kit (includes two 20' cut-to-fit hoses), filler kit and two bottles of hydraulic fluid
  • Splashwell: 5"H x 6"D x 21"W minimum
  • Warranty: Two years

Comments about Seastar Solutions BayStar Outboard Steering System:

Install instructions a bit disconnected. You do need a second person to purge the system. After struggling for the past few years with a seizing rack and pinion I wish I did this upgrade earlier. Steering is now effortless, and the wife is happy to captain again.

Comments about Seastar Solutions BayStar Outboard Steering System:

Good product. Installation is not for the novice and professional help would be best. My steering torque problem is solved with my Merc 115 on a 18.5' runabout.

Comments about Seastar Solutions BayStar Outboard Steering System:

Very pleased with the product. Installation was relatively easy with good instructions. Bleeding the system is the hardest part. Performs very nicely on my 18 foot bassboat. Sure beats cable steering.
