Product Description

The lightest, most powerful and most efficient electric outboards available, the Torqeedo Cruise 4.0 is the leading electric solution for pontoon boats, sailboats, small boats, commercial operations and users on lakes that limit the use of combustion motors.

Due to the use of a highly efficient rare earth magnet torque motor, electronics and gear package, Torqeedo Cruise models deliver up to twice the range from the same battery supply compared to other popular electric motors with high-tech features such as GPS-based range calculation, up-to-the-minute accurate battery status and speed calculations and its ability to work with cool accessories like Torqeedo’s smartphone app, TorqTrac.

Solid aluminum lower unit provides improved protection from impact damage, corrosion, fishing lines and debris. The Cruise 4.0R model delivers the propulsive power of an 8hp and the thrust of a 9.9hp combustion outboard. Short shaft.

Comments about Cruise 4.0R (Remotely Steered) Outboard, Short Shaft:

New Cruise 4.0R model has design improvements and has been a perfect outboard for my Catalina 27 ft sailboat. I've had many seasons of flawless cruising from Annapolis to various overnight points 25-45kts away. The Cruise 4.0R has provided strong, silent, and reliable power whenever needed including powering through windless days and pushing into harbor against gale-force winds.

Torqeedo has addressed all concerns described in other reviews (e.g. lower unit seal) in the current Cruise 4.0R and were very helpful if I had any technical questions. I went with the Torqeedo Power 26-104 lithium batteries (sold separately via West Marine) and find the range is more than I need for full weekend trips.

Finally, I love the complete absence of any oil, gas, or fumes with this outboard. It's incredibly light given it's power, and therefore easy to pull on and off the sailboat when needed *without* any greasy hassles.

    • Motor Has Design Flaw

Comments about Cruise 4.0R (Remotely Steered) Outboard, Short Shaft:

Purchased this motor for pontoon boat. Design flae is in the seal on lower unit. Seal is damaged very easy and allows water intrusion and shorts all electrical in motor.
Factory rep said they recognized the problem and will change in the future. Sorry for your problem.

          Misleading Product

          By Electric Disappointed

          from Nassau, The Bahamas

Comments about Cruise 4.0R (Remotely Steered) Outboard, Short Shaft:

I decided to purchase product because the bonus of not carrying gas on the dinghy was very appealing. Serious deliberation on spending the money for an electric engine. Took the cruiser to Florida to pick up product and loaded it up. Realized that the engine itself comes without battery. Went to local dealer and found out the battery is an additional $7,000.00.
Was never advertised that the cost of engine only gets you 1/3 the way there.
