WEST MARINE
6 Gallon Low Permeation Above-Deck Fuel Tank

$64.99

Model # 13854211 | Mfg # 88WM101-2
In stock online.

These all-new designs virtually eliminate fuel evaporation and loss by containing fuel vapor within the tank instead of venting it wastefully to the atmosphere. They’re better for the environment and reduce fuel costs as all the fuel you purchase stays where it belongs—in your tank. Similar to automotive industry systems, these tanks feature a tethered, ratcheted fuel cap with a high-flow automatic vacuum valve that ensures optimal flow under all conditions. When combined with self-sealing fuel fittings, they create an integrated fuel system that is good for both the environment and your pocketbook.

Each tank features a 90° 1/4" NPT fuel fitting and an easy-to-read, slosh resistant, high contrast fuel gauge that accurately monitors the level of remaining fuel without requiring the removal of the fuel cap. Seamless, injection molded, multi-layer construction provides, beyond their stated fuel capacity, a 5% vapor space to safely allow for fuel thermal expansion and an additional 2-Cycle oil capacity to achieve a 1:16 ratio mix. Designed, built and certified to meet the requirements of EPA CFR 40 and California CCR 2468.

  • Capacity: 6 Gallon
  • Dimensions: 19 13/16"L x 13 1/2"W x 9 3/16"H
  • Warranty: Two years

Note: Any low-permeation tank may become pressurized when exposed to direct sunlight or any other source of heat. Under these conditions you may see the tank expand or bulge. Do not place the tank in a confined area that prevents this normal expansion. Pressurized low-permeation fuel system components require a thread sealant specifically designed for the unique conditions they create to maintain a leak-proof seal at their threaded connections. Tape-type thread sealants will not withstand the pressurized conditions potentially created within low-permeation systems. Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket No. 3, Model 13630512, is recommended for all low-permeation fuel system threaded connections.

I make it a point to shop at the Gig Harbor store. Gary, Fred and the rest of the Gang make it a fun experience. They go out of their way to help me and to get me the right product or part no matter how strange it may be. I also rely on their expertise to point me in the right direction and answer my questions. I like to drop in and see what's new on the store shelves to see what I might get next with my gold membership points. One added point, on several occasions I bought an extended warranty and one item malfunctioned it was imidiatly replaced with out hesitation or a problem. Thank You

Sorry, no vent is a terrible idea. I just bought two six gallon tanks for the dingy. While parked at our marina, the staff was called to deal with our leaking fuel. They disconnected the engine (25hp Yamaha) because fuel was leaking from the carbs. The tanks were blown out of proportion so that they looked like a balloon. And only about 6 gallons of fuel was remaining out of 12 gallons. (both were full) Bad idea. They're going back to the local WM store.

Comments about West Marine 6 Gallon Low Permeation Above-Deck Fuel Tank:

This tank inflates like a balloon because of it's ventless design. However , no the fuel is under pressure and will leak from all fittings at the tank. it could also push fuel to your engine while off if you have the hose connected.

This tank is not designed to vent .so on a hot day it will inflate like a balloon full of gas and vapor . It will eventually fail somewhere and it's usually at the fittings .

Comments about West Marine 6 Gallon Low Permeation Above-Deck Fuel Tank:

I purchased this fuel tank to fit under the seat of a Boston Whaler. When I first installed the tank, the fit was fine. As soon as the temperature heated up at all, though, the ventless fuel tank inflated to the point where it was applying substantial pressure on the bench seat above it. Without any vent, I have to loosen the cap regularly to release the pressure build-up. The ventless design seems poor. Will be returning this to my local WM.

Comments about West Marine 6 Gallon Low Permeation Above-Deck Fuel Tank:

The ventless tank forces gasoline under the pressure of heated vapor through the engine while the engine is at rest (40hp 2-stroke Yamaha 20-year old). I have enclosed the tank in white plastic garbage bags to limit solar heating. It still blows up like a wood tick. I live in Massachusetts. I estimate that roughy half of the two tanks of gasoline I purchased ended up in the harbor. The engine produces a gas film on the water surface and the smell of gasoline is strong. Today I will see if I can fit an older vented cap to it. I trust you will see more of these reviews.
