Keep Underwater Metal Parts Clean with Antifouling Coatings
Antifouling coatings are designed to deter the growth of fouling organisms on underwater metal parts such as outdrives, outboard motor bottom ends, keel coolers, prop shafts and propellers. Some, like antifouling spray paint, offer easy spray application, while others are suitable for brush application. Clear antifouling coatings are offered for underwater lights. Available colors include gray, black and clear. Antifouling coatings can be used in fresh-, salt- and brackish water. To prevent marine growth, some antifouling coatings contain a biocide such as zinc omadine or cuprous thiocyanate. Others contain no biocide, and instead create a super slick surface which prevents the adhesion of marine organisms.
