West Marine should put this caveat on this product.
Otherwise quite good binoculars and very good value for money.
West Marine refunded my money, and now I'm saving for Steiners, which will work worldwide.

Bought these yesterday and am returning them today, the attached lens caps fall off at the slightest touch and the bag supplied is too small to easily put them away. The compass focus for me requires them to be pushed tight against my eyes, unnatural and unlike my old ones. These were a replacement for some (I think Fujinon ones I owned for 12 years which were better design and better made, but the compass lighting had failed so I needed a new pair. Trying to use thes at night at sea would be a nightmare and the lens caps would probably be lost overboard first time out. I was even looking on line for a different method of stowage like a hard case, but heck they are around $70,and surely it should not be necessary to have to buy a different stowage case for a brand new item.

Comments about West Marine Tahiti 7 x 50 Waterproof Binoculars with Compass:

These Binos do have the "BAK4" porro prisms. However although rubberized, they are NOT shock resistant. And the rubber coating makes it impossible to adjust once out of collimation. We lost a pair to this after an 8" drop (from the coaming to the seat of our sailboat). Our slip-mate lost his after it banged against a stanchion while hanging around his neck.

This is great when In open water with no nab points and you see an object. It gives a bearing and you can simply follow your compass.

I used mine sailing Lake Superior for the past 7 years and liked them so much I bought my daughters and son in laws a pair for X-Mas. I tell people they can use them if they put the strap over their neck or they can use my cheap ones.
