West Marine should put this caveat on this product.
Otherwise quite good binoculars and very good value for money.
West Marine refunded my money, and now I'm saving for Steiners, which will work worldwide.

Bought these yesterday and am returning them today, the attached lens caps fall off at the slightest touch and the bag supplied is too small to easily put them away. The compass focus for me requires them to be pushed tight against my eyes, unnatural and unlike my old ones. These were a replacement for some (I think Fujinon ones I owned for 12 years which were better design and better made, but the compass lighting had failed so I needed a new pair. Trying to use thes at night at sea would be a nightmare and the lens caps would probably be lost overboard first time out. I was even looking on line for a different method of stowage like a hard case, but heck they are around $70,and surely it should not be necessary to have to buy a different stowage case for a brand new item.

I used mine sailing Lake Superior for the past 7 years and liked them so much I bought my daughters and son in laws a pair for X-Mas. I tell people they can use them if they put the strap over their neck or they can use my cheap ones.

We are using this for bay fishing outside Apalachicola. While we have been coming to the area for 23 years we just recently purchased a boat for fishing here. The binoculars have helped with buoy identification and landmarks. Also the padding on the binoculars is a plus too for drops in the boat - no scaring!

Really like these. The lens caps dropping off isn't a deal breaker, since having them dangling always annoys me anyway. Also couldn't figure out how to attach the strap from the instructions. (Maybe that's just me.)

First pair I received was defective (Compass light didn't work) but West Marine replaced them with no problem and the new pair works great. If you are looking for a pair of binoculars with good glass and a built in compass that won't set you back too much, give these a try.

An excellent value. I had trouble screwing the battery cap back on after inserting battery. The strap was chaffed. Both minor issues. I needed binoculars with a compass so crew could determine bearing to a mark or approaching vessels. Compass works great. Optics do the job.
